Had/have this too! The timing of the CAS jumps about by just doing up the three bolts. tried two different ones. Weird shi(r)t. Mine pinks some times, shouldn't knock sensor stop this?
Have you checked the PCV in the plenum is moving freely? 19mm spanner to remove it I think.
The ball should move freely. Clean with petrol or carb cleaner.
Mine std T25 smoked like Q had set it up...
+1 on above, as an MOT should be to the same standard wherever wherever you go I'm prettydamn sure it has to be the nearest. 70 miles is a bit excessive.

Get an oil cooler with a thermostat sandwich plate. It'll look after whatever oil you have.

The (standard) one way valve on the inlet side (back on plenum facing across car to passenger side) gets blocked too. Mine smoked like a bitch til I removed it, 19mm I think, and soaked it in petrol...

You can double check by counting the number of teeth between marks on pulleys and ex cam and crank pulley. Search on here for the info.
