The unichip piggyback ecu controls the boost. There is a sensor line from the plemum and the ecu controls the boost through the stock solenoid.
You must be too rough the throttle to get it to spike...

After taking one of the remain bolts out last night I can confirm the turbo elbow bolts are M8 x 1.25 x 40mm. So I wnet to B&Q and got one for 38p!
