Indeed it is suitable, Pro S 5w-40 is just fine.

    1996 200sx s14

    85,000

    walbro
    decat
    boost to one bar
    dump valve

I drive to work twice a week and it never hits boost till the car is fully warm.. and usually i dont bother on the way to work.

On the weekend it might get driven hard a little bit

will Silkolene 10/50w be ok or should I get 5/50w??

Also I have no idea when the gear box oil was changed what would you recommend for that ??

    Thanx in advance

The 10w-50 would be a good choice, this will cover good cold start and also very good hot end protection.

For the gearbox and diffs look at the Silkolene Syn5 75w-90.

We have it carriage free at the moment too!

    Cheers

    Hi Simon,

I have an S14a, live in Plymouth and would like to change all the oil. What oils would you recommend for the following spec?

    Make: Nissan 200sx
    Model: S14a
    Year: 1998 'S'
    Engine Size: 2.0ltr 16v Turbo
    Engine Type: SR20DET, 53,000 miles.
Any Mods: Turbo back exhaust - fully decatted, BOV, Induction Kit, 14 PSI boost. Soon to go FMIC and stage 1 chip.
Type of driving (track or just road etc): Road - usually journeys of approx 7 miles.

The oil you currently use (make and grade): I dont know......

    Thanks,
    Nige

    Nige,

With all those short journeys I would be inclined to go for a 5w-40 full synthetic.

Perhaps once it goes to stage one chip a move to the 10w-50.

    Cheers

Only if the car is tracked or running excessive oil temps.

It is a good quality proper synthetic oil.

    1992 Nissan 200SX (S13) 1800cc 16 Valve Turbo, automatic, 77 000 miles.

    Hi Simon

I have sent you an email with my request, as follows.

    1992 Nissan 200SX (S13) 1800cc 16 Valve Turbo, automatic, 77 000 miles.
I have just bought the car and will be changing all fluids,
    Engine oil
    Automatic transmission oil
    Diff oil
    Coolant
    Brake Fluid
This may be a bit O.T.T. as the car has full service history, but I don’t know what has been used in the past.

At the moment the car is standard, but I am considering some modifications. I don’t expect to get above 250BHP.
I drive 6 miles to work each way so lots of cold runs.
When I have a blast I wait until normal running temp is reached before red lining it.

So there you have it, I would welcome your recommendations, prices and change intervals for all the above.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hiya,
I need to know what oil you'd recommend for my skyline. It's got a GTR engine running pistons, cams etc and has, conservatively, over 400bhp. It gets drifted at least 50% of it's miles and spends a lot of time in the 7-9krpm range.
    Thanks

    James

    James,

I have seen you out and about over the last season with the other drifters.

For you, you are looking at either the Silkolene Pro R 15w-50 or the Motul 300v 15w-50.

Very much the belt and braces option.

    Cheers

Got your email, thanks for the prompt reply. You website is very good, I'll be needing some oil for my bike soon too. I'll be making an order just as soon as I sell the wifes Renault 19.

Cool. Thanks mate. I look up the prices now

Just out of interest, which oil do you recommend for Nismo diffs?

Also, is there any chance you could send me a price list. I'm thinking it might be good to get all my oil for the season in one go.

You don't need a price list anymore:

Bearing in mind how cold it is at the moment and that the oil will be changed again mid feb, would it be better to use the Silkolene 10W instead, just for this month?
    Thanks again

You can do, give you slightly better cold start.

They are pretty much the same when hot, but under hard use such as drifitng the 15w-50 will be ultimately more stable.

    Hi,
I have been told by my mechanic to run the car each morning for a few mins (before moving off) to allow the oil to warm up and protect the turbo.

It seems a bit much to me, does anyone here do this?

I understand allowing the turbo to cool down when stopping.

You dont have to sit there and wait for the engine/turbo to war up, but just take it easy until everything is up to temp.

Got the oil for my 200, thanks, the bike is next. What would you recommend?
Honda CBR900RRS, (1995 model) 35,000 miles. Only been doing a few thousand miles a year for the last few years. I currently use Castrol R4 fully synthetic but I suffer from clutch slip when the oil is cold. I have been advised to use Castrol GPS which is only semi-synthetic but is better for the wet clutch, but not so good for the engine?
I let the engine warm up before hard use and then it's high revs a lot of the time.

    Cheers
