You can use it, but to be honest synthetic would make a much better choice. Especially if the car is driven with... spirit.

Thanks to Google Translate.
Hi Oilman thanks for good info.
When you read such an oil test here:
http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf
What do you think?
I buy all my own oil from Opie to my 3 cars.

Alright mate. I'm looking to get some oil. I have sr20 and my dad has an Audi s2. If poss i would like to use the same oil for the two cars. Mine will be around stage1 and the Audi is standard. Both get driven a little hard. So what oil would you advise
I have two cars for your consideration please Simon:
1) BMW E30 with SR20DET around 260bhp - this is a track car which get driven hard, but also has to drive to and from trackdays/the Ring. When crusing the oil temp is around 75 degrees. On track it obviously is quite a bit higher but still under 100 degrees - what oil would you recommend?
2) BMW E30 M3 with E34 M5 engine around 350bhp - this is a road car and uses a mildly tuned S38 engine. These engines generally run quite warm.
Also, on my track car I use castrol B373 in the LSD as it's much cheaper than the stuff BMW recommend - any problems using this?
Thanks,
Theo

Hi
You can use a good 5w-40 in either of the cars or a 10w-50 if the oil is constantly over 110C.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.

Hi Theo
In the track car, use the Silkolene Pro S 10w-50
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1145-sil...e-engines.aspx
You could get away with that in the road car as well, but ideally use a 5w-40 in that.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Again the Silkolene is a good choice, but so is the Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition.

Tim

Hi Tim,
I need to do an oil change on my 89 200sx, unfortunately the engine was replaced with an exchange unit of unknown mileage 2 years ago. From the history i have its had regular oil changes but i want to make sure i am using the right stuff. what would you reccomend?
Have you got the Ca18det? If so you cannot go wrong with one of the 10w-50's as a top choice http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

What would you recommend for my S14a?
Make - Nissan
Model - 200sx S14a
Year - 2000
Engine Size - 2 litre
Engine Type - DOHC 16v Turbo
Any Mods - HKS Hi-Power 3" catback exhaust, HKS Super Power Flow Induction Kit, Blitz Blow-Off-Valve
Type of driving (track or just road etc) - General daily use, sometimes enthusiastic. No track or drifting etc.
79,000 miles on clock.
Also has first signs of VVT rattle.
The oil you currently use (make and grade) - I have no idea, only just bought it from trader
I would go with a good 5w-40 synthetic, for best results the ester based synthetics such as the Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300v, Redline, Gulf Comp and Millers CFS.
Cheers

Is there any truth to a thicker oil, such as 10w50, helping to reduce any unwanted rattles such as VVT rattle? I don't really want to lose cold start protection.
Also, have you heard of, and what do you make of "ProLong" engine oil additive? A bloke I work with who does a lot of track racing uses it in every engine he races and absolutely swears by it. He's adament I should seriously consider trying some?
