    Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for the detailed and educational response. That really helps a lot! Would 15W50 be safe to run all year round? What about 10W40?

Are you at all familiar with Castrol Edge RS with Titanium Fluid Strength Technology (FST)? How would you compare it to your recommendations and to Amsoil?

    Hi

We don't have Edge RS over here, so I',m not sure of the differences, but I would assume it's similar to the Edge we get, so pretty decent stuff.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I have a c35 laurel with a RB25DET engine, I'm going to Nurburgring for a few laps in August so need a recommendation on which oil to use, it's currently got 5w-50 from previous owner in Japan when it was serviced. Also could I have a recommendation on which spark plugs to use also?

    Thanks

It has stage 1 mods on it, 3" exhaust, 10psi, air filter, fmic, will have aftermarket rad, walbro pump.

Oh and what coolant to also use too and brake fluid (uprated nismo pads only)

    Thanks

    Hi

Assuming that Germany will be pretty warm when you are there and with the mods, the 5w-50 should be fine for it, although I would probably use a good 5w-40 for the rest of the time.

Sorry, but I don't have the plugs listed.

The best fluids for the brakes and clutch are the Castrol SRF, Motul RBF660 and Gulf RF1000. The Motul RBF600, Gulf RF800, Millers 300 Plus and Fuchs Pro Race are close to those, but don't have quite as high boiling points. The next step down (in performance terms), but still an upgrade over standard are the Motul DOT 5.1, Pentosin Super DOT 4/Super DOT 4 Plus and Castrol React Performance. Any of the other DOT4 fluids we have are fine to use as a standard choice.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-450-brak...tch-fluid.aspx

The best coolants are the Motul Inugel Optimal or Fuchs Mag/Pro Cool, but the Fuchs Fricofin LL and Millers Alpine Red are fine as cheaper alternatives.

    Cheers

was about to ask a similar question....
I have a 1998 R34 GTT Skyline, it has 0.4 stage mods (Catback Exhaust and Intake only)
I drive like Miss Daisy, so the oil I had put in was a 5w 40 (unknown brand as garage did it, I am 1st UK owner)...
I'll be changing oil soon so I can put my own choice of oil in.... Some peeps say go for a 10w 50 or 60 oil ? but I read that for the RB25DET Neo engine, a good 5w 40 will do the job... (fully syn)
    sound about right ?

Something abit different, I've just bought a 2007 2.0tdi Audi A4 170bhp with questionable service history. Is it worth cleaning the engine out with a cleaning oil or something similar or do they do more harm than good? I read a while ago that they use detergents to clean out the build up of crap but people said it strips the oil completely off the engine so can cause accelerated wear?
Would I be better off just running some cheap oil through it a couple of times?

    Hi

Yes, a 5w-40 is ideal for that, the 10w-50 and 10w-60 are too thick for a standard engine.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul Sport/300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Castrol Edge/Magnatec, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

    Cheers

    Hi

Yes, use the cheap oil, the detergents will gently clean the engine, rather than engine flushes which can be too harsh.

Hi there, Looking to do my engine box and diff oil this week and want to double check oil choices before ordering...

    Silkolene PRO S 10w50

RED LINE LightWeight ShockProof Gear Oil 75w-90

    Motul Motyl Gear 75W-90

Diff is welded, and the car is running induction, front mount, full exhaust, boost controller and gets driven on road and hard on track drifting...

    Cheers

Hi I have recently bought a 1993 180sx SR20DET and looking to find out best oil to use for it and change intervals.

Mods: FMIC, Turbo back exhaust, T28 turbo, HKS air filter, Power FC remapped to around 280ish bhp running 0.8 bar

Driving will be mixed between normal daily driving and fast b road, no intention to start drifting at this point.

    Hi

    I would use a 5w-40 synthetic.

    Hello.

1996 Nissan 180sx SR20DET, no mods completely original engine wise. I have an unknown 2way diff in my car as well.

What oil would you recommend for daily driving and possible track driving in the future. Engine, gearbox & diff.

    Thanks
    John

    Hi

AdamRPS13 is spot on for the engine and gearbox, but the diff isn't quite as straightforward. Some of the fairly common 2 way diffs need a 75w-140 synthetic LSD oil, others need an 80w-90 mineral oil and some want something in the middle. To play it safe, I'd probably go for the 75w-140 and the Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip, Gulf Gear LS, Red Line 75w-140 GL5, Fuchs Sintopoid LS, Motul Gear Competition and Millers CRX NT LS are good options.

Only reason i put motul down is the diff in my car is a nismo pro gt 1 way and its the oil that was put in it when it was built up in the casing. If its not correct then i better change it lol.

    Hi

As far as I am aware, the Nismo diffs are all supposed to use a 75w-140. The problem with aftermarket diffs is that there are too many of them to remember what they all need and there is very little manufacturer information about the oils required. You're probably fine with a 90 for road use, but I'd play it safe and use a 75w-140 if it goes on track.

    Cheers

Big thanks Tim. The diff in the car was rebuilt last time using proper Kaaz oil, not sure what diff it actually is sadly.
