The last rpm cell on a standard ECU is 6800rpm - it just uses the fuel correction and ignition timing in the 6800rpm cells up to the limiter (7200rpm on UK ECUs - the std rev counters aren't very accurate at all).

If you want to map more accurately at high revs you just need to re-scale the rpm points. I've done this on my car. Although my rev limit is set to 7500rpm and the highest map cell is 7000rpm. All works fine

Jap ECUs have a 7700rpm limit as standard.

i dunno wat the Max is to be honest, it differs on each gear for me.
    on 1st its 7400, 2nd 7300, 3rd 7300, 4th 7100, 5th 6500 ( 5th gear at 150, backs down at the very tip of the red lines,

The rev limit is the same in each gear, and is controlled by the ECU.
Any discrepency is due to the crap rev counter, and the reason you only get to 6500 in 5th is because you don't have enough torque at those revs to go any faster.

they have smaller hands so it's easier for them to replace bottom ends
    quality of fuel perhaps?
    :S

my guessis that it's because they have shorter ratio final drive, but don't know for sure.

Its not very often you redline 5th (I never had or would) would there be any benefits of swapping? Excuse my ignorance.

boyz, My Nissan in 5th gear revs to 7500 and then the fuel cut off comes on.

Y cant go futher 238km/s because that. Also, my gearbox radios are short, I know (stock ones).

    Itīs that normal?
Is it very harmfull 4 my engine?

What about changing the fuel cut to 7700, as the jap ones?

    Thanx!

how often do you sit at 7500 in 5th?
do you have an oil cooler?
do you like replacing bottom ends?

i would seriously consider cruising no higher then 5500-6000 for long periods without an oil cooler i managed to kill my bottom end by doing a short period doing a little over that

Me too, and probably at least half the S13 owners on this board

...I was over 6000 rpm in 5th for a little while though

How well are the cranks balanced from the factory??

Is it really worth getting the crank balanced and maybe lightened to avoid this problem so that we allow the engine to rev less destructively?
    How much does that cost?
I dont think i've come across hardly anyone on here that has done the this to there crank...why?

    Sorry, is this a hijack??

not a hijack as such, rev limits & bottom ends go hand in hand, or bang splatter bang

i don't know *many* people that have done it, but i'm going to when i do my full rebuild
it costs from around Ģ100 but that's a full bottom end balance, for the price of a couple of tyres, or a set of speakers, and it's a damn sight easier to replace those at a later date, if you were ever having your engine rebuilt, i'd do it, not so i could rev higher, just so it would handle the same revs easier, most CA's that run T25s / T28s are passed their max power by 7,000 so why rev higher? i'd just do it for safety if i missed my change point or if i hit the limiter when drifting
but i wouldn't rip the engine out just so i could do it

    just my 2 cents
