    S14a speedo cluster into a S14

Ive been told this aint a straight plug & play swap!

Have had a looky looky in the 2 manuals & got the pin/wiring diagrams for both models & I cant see any real differneces!?

There appears to be 1 extra wire ont he S14A but if Im reading it correctly thats only used on Australian models!

The only thing that concerns me is that the picture of the cluster its self in the 14a supplement is the same as in the 14 manual i.e. its a pic of a s14 cluster not a s14a one.

If i just unplug the 14 clocks & plug ion the 14a ones what is the worst that can happen!? i.e. will my loom melt!? or will it just simply not work!?

Gunna speak to a mate of mine who is a auto electrican/genius & see if Im correct or just plain stoopid(probably the later)

Im only goin on the fact the plugs look the same in the pics!

so perhaps the plugs do the same thing but r slightly different in shape!?

aint got my 14a clocks yet so will have a look & see if they r the same when i get them!

Wasnt sure if anybody had done this without replacing the whole car loom!

If the plusg r the same though & i plug em in what r the chances of doin some serious damage!? i would of thought that it would be a case of it just wouldnt work! but dont rally wanna set the car alight! lol

I'd be willing to bet the plugs are different...

I reckon if you really want to do it you'll need to chop the plugs off the S14a loom and splice them onto the S14 loom...

Yea Ben thats what I thought I would have to do & Im fine with that its just from the wirign diagrams it appears all the wire go into the same places on both models!

I hadnt really thought about the plugs being different shapes as the pics in the manual r the same for both models!

I think perhaps they r different shapes now but this is not demostarted in the manuals!

shouldnt be a big job just to swap the wires over!

will have a looky when my new clocks arrive!

Think i know what needs to be done now! was just confusing me as the pics of the plugs r the same in both manuals!

Any news on this mate? I need a new set of clocks and like the S14a better as the tachometer dont overlap the speedometer

    Cheers,

Most pof the colours match up colour for colour! which is helpful!

u need to move a few pins join a few together! oh & i used parts of the s14 clocks

i.e. the lil black section with hand brake lgiht in & i also used the back section of the s14 clocks as the s14a clocks use a different speed sensor!

This is the s14a(jap) diagrams! most of it is right but some aint lol

Just working out how to get the s14 1 up a min!

To be honest the best way to do it is have both clocks sat in front of you & just follow the track!

I have circled the bit that i used from my s14 clocks so basically ya just need to switch them over they un click very easily!

This is due to the s14 havin a sperate Parking brake light as to the brake warning light! the s14a use the brake watrnin light for both parking & warning!

You will also need to switch the backs on the speedo its self! so just remove the facia from the 2 speedo units & swap them over1 be very careful when doin this as not to damage the lil coil spring on the needle!

U may wish to just swap your speedo sensor in your gearbox! which is a very easy job but I dinbt have a sensor to hand & was bord of drivin round with no cluster & wires porring out of my dash lol!

so swapping the speedo sensor negates the swapping of the back panel then?

Pin by pin guide would be useful for me as i'm an electrical numpty
