    Pics of your cooler setups.

    Hi Guys.

Im in the process of shortening my cooler lines so ive decided to bring the cooler into the engine bay, Can you guys post up some pics of yours or others that you know of with this setup. Heres mine just sitting there. just want to get an idea on mounting it (as the radiator mounts now sit inbetween the castor arm brackets (the two brackets that join the lower radiator support bar).

    heres the old

and what i want to do.

    cheers

    neil

I can't see that being much of a problem. I'd make a plate to bolt to the diagonal braces where I'd drill holes for the bottom mounts of the intercooler and the radiator. Then make a long bracket from the stock holes on the radiator crossmember to the radiator, and from those brackets, make a bracket out towards the holes on the IC which are farther apart.

i can see why you would want shorter piping but surely having it closer to the hot rad is going to have a more detremental efect than leaving it with longer pipework,
also its now in a hot engine bay and has less air being blasted at it like it would right down in the bumper

im going to duct the front so that the air is directed towards both the radiator and the cooler (cooler is about 30cm shorter in height than the radiator) i also have a thermo fan. current temps do not rise above 85degrees whilst drifting (full lap at above 4500).

Yeh thats how i used to have my oil cooler before i mounted it to the side so it gets air straight onto it from one of the ducts in my front bar. im after radiator then cooler inside the engine bay pics.

btw when putting it together make sure theres a 1cm gap between the ic and rad. I had designed mine like yours and sent it to a motorsport place that specialise in radiators/coolers etc. Ducting and the cm gap is very important stick ducting at the bottom sides and top so all air has to go through the ic and rad rather than around. I think the cm gap has somat to to with flow and radiant heat i.e. rad heating up your charge temp [exspecially when stationary]

i was searching the net and found a intercooler radiator combo. was designed to be all one unit and looks similiar to the above picture from Al. came with electric fans and cost about $1100. will have to look later and see if i can find it again.

that is a dam nice fanimold

Personally id move the rad further into the engine bay to give a better space between the ran and IC, i found a 2" gap is good

is it not better to have the intercooler the right way up as when the hot air enters, the hot air would rise making cooler air coming out the bottom of the other side of the cooler. so if u have it upside down the heat would just go straight across the top of the intercooler. don't get me wrong it would cool it down but i think the other way is better in theory to make cooler air. also i think having it in the engine bay and upside down isn't as good. i know people have had good results in the eingine bay but if they done it with a proper front mount they would definatly get colder air.

thanks fletch thats what im doing. going to use silicon bends for piping (already made the bend in metal but its soooo tight) im going to space the radiator abit away (dont have much clearance between the harmonic balancer and the radiator but we'll see. got to duct it all so air is sent correctly to each thing.)

wont make any difference whatsoever, think of how much air is being pushed across that cooler at around 7000 rpm, its not going to be able to rise or come out the other side

    Shonky but effective:

My rad is about 3" away from the viscous fan. The silicon T-Piece on the hot side does wonders for cooling down the charge before it hits the intercooler.
