looks like a really smart project mate, be awsome once its done, keep up the good work
Well thats weird, now getting proper voltage at the battery. Last night was 11.5 volts, now it goes up to 13.5 ish. Not high enough in my opinion so might try another alternator.
I hate itermittent faults.
Original battery dropped to 11 volts at the time I pulled over so it would just about crank and the lights were very dim.
Corvette battery got me home.
Restarted the car and checked the voltage and it was 13.5-14 volts IIRC, ran it up for 2 mins, refitted the orginal battery. Before starting it this battery was 11.3 volts, slow crank got it started and then it read 13.5.
Drove it for half hour and 13.5V at idle, and 12.6v without engine running
I wonder if you have a lazy cell on the battery. How old is it?
I don't even know where I got the batter from lol
loving this thread, keep up the good work!
Get a drop test done on it
nah thats no good, any more than 2 foot and they split...
ok, ill get me coat....
Am thinking I might just swap the alternator, the battery appears fine to me. At the end of the day there was a fault somewhere so it wasn't charging.
Thought I'd do an update. But there's nothing to update on. I have been a completely unmotivated bitch and done nothing
The alternator is fine, it turned out to be a really badly corroded cable between the battery and alternator.
I decided I would retire the car from service for a few months with the view of fitting the S15 diff and of course the new engine. Hoping to get it done for Spring time.
Meanwhile I retired the car completely off the road and into the back garden. A mate of mine needs an engine for his S13 (yes, he's fekked the bigends ) so that will come out of the Datsun for him to use.
Here's its new home for the next few months:

aww shame. shes a beaut.
Yea, i hope the car doesnt languish here without an engine for too long! Its a stunning big cruiser!
So what engines going back in to replace it?
She looks really clean in the pics, I'd love to own something like it. Shame your mates engine is fecked but at least it'll be away from the wet roads
