gaining exhaust clearance
i am trying to get a bt more ground clearance
i will be fitting an s14 elbow and downpipe soon to replace my damaged 14a downpipe
there is a lot of room above the down pipe atm, does anyone know if it would cause any issues if i shortened either the elbow or the vertical part of the downpipe to pull the front of the exhause up close to the underside of the car,
at the minute there is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of space above it
the only issue i can see is the clearance when the engine rocks, but i also intend to fit uprated engine and gearbox mounts and an engine dampner to reduce the movement asmuch as possible

can't really afford one at the minute cause there are loads of thing that need done as well like the manifold needs relaced and the lambda sensor and twenty other things, otherwise i'd have bought one

Heard that those engine dampers aren`t great. The engine mounts allow the engine to move slightly which the damper counter-acts, causing elbows and/or downpipes to crack due to the strain. Thats what i`ve heard anyways so it could rubbish. Looks good though!

this is a first, no one is disagreeing with me
theres bound to be someone who can think of a good reason

My exhaust sits really low = no speed bumps for me. I'd like to lift mine tbh as it can be a pain.

my exhaust seems to hang pritty low, the lowest point probably is the decat silencer box its a full 3 inch scorpion system dont know if aftermarket exhausts hang low because of the bore of the pipe

i've been looking to do the same
the bottom of the downpipe just occasionally catches the speed bump at work so i was thinking it might be posible to shorten the downpipe a few inches
the only problem would be aligning it with the rest of the system
the driftworks super low downpipe looks good but i can't justifiy the price
I might take it to the local exhaust fabricators and see what they'll charge to either remake the downpipe or adjust the one i've got
as for the question of engine dampers - the one i'm using doesn't allow any movement at all (along with uprated g/box and engine mounts)
the engine stays in one place so the exhaust system doesn't move either

which engine damper do u have

one of those cheap ebay ones - that come with some kind of plastic block inside instead of being a proper damper
