S14/S14a stage 1a ECU upgrade is finished

The stage 1a ECU upgrade is finished
First of all: big thanks to Robbie for coming down today to help us produce the new map. Much appreciated

OK, so, heres what we did. Robbies car had the following modifications:
    Apexi air filter
    Standard dump valve
    Uprated fuel pump
    Profec B boost controller
    Type 2 FMIC
    Turbo back exhaust, twin exit
    Standard AFM
    Standard injectors

Robbie came over this morning and fitted the Profec - he was running a boost valve before but we wanted more control. Boost valves don't hold boost very well. Next I rigged the car up with my mapping gear: Wideband lambda sensor, knock detection equipment and my ECU remapping hardware. I initially mapped the car on the road, to get it pretty close to what we wanted. When this was done we went along to Surrey Rolling Road.

We wanted to get a comparison with the standard ECU map. So first off we ran the car at 0.5 bar (the base actuator pressure). Heres the graph. As you can see it goes so rich its off the scale. After the remap and exactly the same boost pressure (wastegate pressure) we gained 20bhp!. Graph here.

Next we ran the standard ECU at 0.9 bar peak boost. Heres the graph. - again bloody rich (off the chart in places) and not much power.

Here are the final results. We managed 285bhp and 300ft.lbs of torque. The injectors were just maxed out at high rpm (although I've never heard of an injector fail, and the standard map maxes them out as it runs sooooo rich). I've included a graph of the AFM voltage and injector duty at the end.
    Power and boost pressure:

    Power and AFR:

    Power and torque:

AFM voltage and injector duty %:

They're available now (I've not sorted the web shop page yet) and are £199.99
If you've got the old stage 1 and want to upgrade it'll be £74.99

cool lookslike the boost peaked at 1.2 bar unless i'm reading it wrong... what will the ideal boost pressure be with this 1a chip Jez?

Great news! A strong power figure and the tourque is incredible!

I'm keen to get one from you in the new year (jan-march) would you be able to do a full set up on my AVCR as well? Its fully installed and has a base setup but i have never felt i have got the best out of it.

How much for a AVCR setup on top of the chip?
    Regards,

    Rich

Thats as much boost as we could get at the top end with the standard actuator - the injectors are maxed out anyway so we thought that'd be cool.

The ECU upgrade is designed to be run with a 1.2 bar mid range, reducing as you get to the red line - you'll struggle to get it to hold more than a bar anyway.

The other big advantage is that I know know a lot more about the operation of the std ECU than I did 5 and a half years ago - so this map will work a lot better with different boost levels.

so, this with stock injectors apparently produces better bhp/torque results than a stage2 with nismo 555's? (as the dyno graph listed on your site)
    Maybe i should've waited a week ^^;

You gonna be revising the old maps then at all from what you've learnt since jez?

Just got back home from a long day.

Many thanks to Jez for the patience in answering my dumb questions.

The car now feels awesome in the midrange compared to what I am used to. The boost comes in harder and earlier than I've ever known - feels the same upgrade as when I went from a standard car to stage 1 with the boost valve. It's just another similar step up.

I really wasn't too concerned with what figures we achieved today to be honest, as what counts is how the car feels to drive. It's fair to say I'll have a big grin for a while.

That's what I was thinking, be interesting to see what can be achieved with a revision to stage 2

When I do stage 2a I reckon it'll be over 300bhp. I need volunteers for this - get in touch if you can help. The engine must have the usual stage 2 bits plus:
Adjustable actuator and electronic boost controller
    Uprated dump valve
    H-Dev tubular manifold
