My missus uncle bought a green-two-tone brand new back in 1990. Was going around locally up until about 2002.

What splitter is on this or is it part of the original bumper??

Grey leather was only fitted late facelift cars K/L/M reg.

It's not as comfy as very limited number of Exec's that got black hide with white piping on hi-back pre-facelift seats.

What? How many two tone's are left?
I'm not sure if anyone could extract that info from DVLA. Clearly they know but might not tell as it sort of narrows the numbers down to the point where they can claim it's not in public interest or invasion of privacy.

Best guess would be around 70 to 80. 330 initially, out of 2475 series 0 and 2933 series 1. Higher attrition rate on early cars.

Though with Chris being on their case it could be less.

ive got a feeling it'll defo be one less than before. I think the guy that bought mine was going to use it as a donor for the engine & box for his kit car. He had contemplated restoring it as he's a welder/fabricator to trade and had done many mk1&2 escorts etc etc but was quite keen to get his kit car going

My two-tone been off road since March 2009 on sorn- taking it for pre-mot tomorrow- god knows how it will have fared being parked outside for 3 years then indoors for nearly another 3. At least it started first time after new battery & fuel added!

Went for pre-mot-- failed on emissions- any ideas? have put STP 'smoke away' in but no difference made; if push comes to shove can I get a replacement engine or have a rebuild of mine to fix it- I've no idea on availability of engines or cost of rebuild. Any advice welcome as I don't want to scrap it, being a two-tone & I've owned it for 13 years!!

No- garage said can't do test itself coz of blue smoke- it does smoke but not a great deal visually. I tend to trust the garage coz I've just given them my 300ZX for a pre MOT- been stood 5 yrs- & all it needs is front tyres, bulb, wiper blades & small patch weld on exhaust!

Check the PCV valve that the breather hose connects to at rear of plenum is working. Should be able to blow into plenum but not suck. Best to get some new clean hose for this test as old breather pipe tastes gash. If you can't blow then the manifold is unable to suck on turbo at idle and it will smoke.

Fit a one way valve in the breather where it joins the AFM trunk. Usual source is a brake booster valve from another petrol turbo car at the breakers. It should allow flow out of the breather into the AFM but not in. This stops the breather sucking air so the manifold vac at idle is applied to the whole engine and it will suck air from where it can - though turbo seals.

Am considering getting it Terracleaned- seen it on episode of Wheeler Dealers- my concern is that they don't do an emissions check before & after the treatment so not easy to actually gauge any improvements to emissions until you have it re-tested- any thoughts?

Have you checked the PCV and fitted a 1-way valve like skyshack said?

Usually this is a cheap fix for smoke at idle.

I've stripped an engine at 180K miles run for last 80K of those miles on ASDA petrol and there were no deposits worth talking about. It doesn't have an EGR so doesn't fill the inlet with coke.

No snake oil cleaning process will stop it smoking. Smoke is either rings, valve stem seals or turbo. Rings will show up on a wet/dry comp test. Valve stem seals usually smoke worse at start up as the oil that has leaked past them burns off. Turbo replace or reduce idle smoke level using one way valve. If fitting a one way doesn't reduce the smoke then it's either rings or valve stem seals.

*sometimes* engine cleaner can help piston rings, my mx5 mk2 had sticky rings causing smoking, very common problem that they get gunked up.

did a flush with wynns, then ran on oil for 500 miles, did another flush and used my regular stuff, smoking gone completly, not a hint of smoke for a few thousand miles till I sold it.
