I'm finally back working on the car YAY!!!

The reason for work stopping on the car was because of this pile outside the house,

Which left the house looking like this.

Then moving onto this. It's all finished now but there are still some little bits to do in the house but that can wait.

This is the most upto date photo of the engine bay so far. Motivation levels for getting the car done are back up which is good .

It's been horrible seeing it sitting there. But the house will always take priority over the car. Will post another update at the weekend once I've got some more done .

There was a point where I was considering selling bits to help with the house but Laura wouldn't let me, god I love her .

Can't wait to get the car running again.

I can't remember what the utility room looked like when you were here. I've got some second hand kitchen units, Worksop on them and then just organised everything as throughout the building work it just became a storage area, even the the point that boxes were stacked in the engine bay lol.

So I got a couple of new tools for working on the car. This is by far my favourite and I wish I had bought it right from the start. It makes getting the welds nice and smooth a piece of cake.

I did a few things including attacking this rust patch that I have been dreading doing. I decided to just cut out the main rust, then treat the rest to retain the shape and profile of the area so I can sand it back to that point later. This is key for this bit as it will clearly be seen once the car is back on the road.

Here's the before taken a while ago.

Then the rust was cut out with the air cut off tool.

Deox Gel was used on both sides of the metal and this stuff is just amazing.

A coat of Etchweld primer was applied after the Deox Gel had been left for an hour and had been completely cleaned off. Once the primer was dry I then welded in the new piece of metal. I also gave the new metal the deox gel treatment and primer before welding in place.

Not the prettiest of welds but it will be grinded back. As you can see, the lower patch hasn't been welded in yet as I ran out of time.

    Rear of the weld.

I also decided to tackle the front panel which had a fair amount of surface rust but luckily no rust holes at all. I used a twisted wire wheel in an angle grinder to get all the surface rust and paint off in the areas that needed attention. I used a hand held wire brush for the tricky bits that the angle grinder couldn't do.

The front of the car then got the deox gel treatment.

Once the deox had been left for an hour I removed it all and gave it another wire brush to remove the remaining residue. The area was then dried off and I was left with nice fresh clean metal that just needed painting with Etchweld primer.

So that's where I got upto at the weekend. I'll try and get some more bits done during the week but I don't like running power tools or air tools in the evening.

Could never change the shell. I've considered it a couple of times but it's never gonna happen. Too many memories in this car

Wait till you get it all back together real sense of achievement.

Is that all it needed or is there more to come?

Nah, just had a very busy year and the car had to be left alone.

It will be quite a while before its back on the road I'm sure.

There's some more bits to do yet before the engine bay can be painted up.
