    Disco Project

Well with the Puma sold it was time to get a replacement. I have never had a 4x4 and after going out off roading with Bubble a few years ago I now quite fancied one for a laugh. Also it would for good for taking the dog around and keeping the Mondeo a bit cleaner

I originally thought Shogun but with the diesels doing just over 20mpg I decided to go for a Disco

So looking around I came across this

Was in very good condition for the year and had a new boot floor and very little rot on it.

Good work Is it a 200 or a 300 tdi? Hope you dont mind the odd oil spot on your drive

I loved both my old classic RR's, and if I ever get rid of my BM as a tow car, it will probably be a Landie of some sort that replaces it

Well, thats a good sign. Its a land rover, if its not leaking oil, it means there's none in it

id look at fitting some decent rock sliders under the sills - in my experience you end up bashing the sills a lot and dont want to damage the shell - also if you beach it rock sliders make it easier and less destructive to drag it out

    Update time

Been busy getting it ready for some greenlaning, first by fitting a wading kit. For those who dont know this is a set of breathers that fit in 6 places - Both axles, bellhousing, timing belt cover, transfer box and top of the gearbox. These ar ethen fed upto the top of the bulkhead. It stops them filling up with water when you go through deep water

Next up was a CB. I got a package from www.thunderpole.co.uk which included the CB, 1.55m Aerial and a gutter mount.

And finally the Snorkel I really didnt want to pay well over £100 for one of these so that called for a trip to B&Q I got a length of drainpipe and some various bends. I also sourced some bendy hose from work.

Ripped the aitbox out so it was easier to mod and see what i was doing. Found some rust

Decided it would be easier to run the pipe on the outside of the wing, so found where i needed to cut a hole and set to work with the dremel.

Drilled some holes for the cable ties that wuill support the pipe

I then put it all together and sealed the joins with RTV

Then finished it off by connecting it to the airbox using a number of elbows

    And there you go, finished

Next on the list is a shitload of lights

    Cool

Might be up for some 'gentle' green laning (ie. not going to trash the car type ) if you are going to be west of London - something I've always wanted to do but never got round to - and I don't know anyone else locally who has a 4x4 that'd come out...

You'll have to be very careful off roading with that snorkel, when I'm out in mine the wings get bashed quite often and I don't think that drainpipes are all that strong

Always wanted a snorkel for mine but I cant find one fore the series 3

Agreed - I lost count of the times we put new wings on my mate's Series III

And then there was the time he rolled it on its side as well
