LOL funny you should say that finished off the car saturday with some help from p.nicholas and afterwards took him out to a local lane. Got 3/4s of the way up it to find a big fook off tree across the track 2 options

    1) reverse all the way back (it was quite a way and all too narrow to turn round anywhere )

    2) move the tree

Yep you guess it we went for option 2

I had a few straps and a ratchet chain winch thing so we spent about 90mins trying to get this tree out the way I know realise I need to carry a saw/axe

Made a gap which i estimated was about 1 disco wide so tried to get round it. Lets just say it wasnt quite a full disco wide

So now sporting some battle scars

Hopefully Paul will stick some pics up of the offending piece of driftwood

Tidy job , and a good idea , I did a simular Snorkal Build on my SJ, but on the outside of the wing, and then went on to Ripped it off twice on some narrow lanes .

Yep none round here or we could go have some fun

Looks like Sailsbury or there might be something by Trago Mills so I hear.

Unless you want to come tagging Chris - the quarry was busy but not damaging - next one is Wellington this sunday

Been thinking about getting shot of the golf (i still don't know what it's for ) and a four door pickup has been on my mind, but this has been inspiring.

Mark - how much did you pay for the Disco, and what mileage / age etc? I know you'd ditched the idea of a shogun on mpg, but what do you get from the disco?
Where ever you go, never take an idiot with you. You can be sure you'll find one when you get there.

They are not cheap generally but you can find the odd bargain if you look hard enough.

I paid £2k but there is very little rust compared to lots of them, it has a new boot floor and plus being a 3dr the rear arches dont go like they do on the 5drs. The mechanical side will last forever and you see them with well over 200k on the clock and still going strong MPG is hard to say, I do mainly short trips (6 miles to work) and i guess around 25mpg, a Shogun would probably do around 20-21 in comparison. On a run you should easily see 28-30 I expect.

I dont regret getting it one bit, even on the road its far more interesting to drive than any normal run of the mill car. No its not quick and it handles like a ferry but thats all part of the character and charm IMO

Couple of miles to work and back each day, long trip once or twice a week and some 4x4ing

25mpg isn't at all bad. We're seeing 24mpg around time in our D3.

Binned the EGR last night and ordered a decat pipe which releases a few extra powers but more importantly improves the MPG

Landrover bits are so fooking cheap decat pipe (which is actually a whole new downpipe) was £17 Granted its not stainless (those were £60 so still cheap) but still a chuffing bargain

Only because there are plenty of other dead land rovers to replace the bits that break it’s a bit like a 4x4 s13

The rear diff on mine imploded a month ago, you definitely need a winch and chainsaw now by the look of that tree

    -Edit-

Disco insurance is very odd. I was originally going for a 5dr but the insurance was about £100 more than the Puma it was replacing. Then I saw this, got a quote and it was about £30 less than the Puma They are both in the same insurance group

Anyway the only two Pay & Play places i know of is Chelmsford and Bures near Colchester. They have days about once a month during the autumn/winter months. Otherwise it s a case of going laning which is good fun as you can do it when you like and its free There are a surprising amount of lanes around, you dont realise they are there until you look for them.

Been busy over the last week or so. Been going to Brentwood LR Club meets which once you talk to other owners and see their cars its like this place, a very slippery slope

Bought diff guards and a steering guard 2nd hand, fitted some rear spotlights (to help reversing down lanes at night if you need to or for working at the back of the car when stuck ) plus got some Modular steelies. For those who dont know these let you access the hub bolts without taking the wheel off so if you are out offroading and snap a halfshaft (quite common apparently when you get into the rought stuff) you can take the bolts out and remove the shaft whilst the car is still on the ground and continue on your way using 2WD

I need to swap my tyres over yet so no pics with them on but i will get some og how it looks at the moment over the weekend

List of Pay and Play sites around the UK

From reading a load of threads on the Surf forums, you have to be very careful laning as a load of them have been reclassified (especially round oxfordshire ) and if you get caught somewhere you aren't supposed to be they get very annoyed - to the point of crushing your car

The trailwise site is a good one to use to find where the lanes are and to see if they have TRO's enforced. Some lanes have been closed totally whereas some are closed during the winter months

that list hasnt got the 2 Essex sites on it

Devils Pits is supposed to be good.
