Yeah I need a new rad for mine, seems to be mixing the oil and coolant.

I would have been in the market a 4x4, but I went and bought another soarer instead.

Ok so the progress i made last week

Head was pressure checked and skimmed, all ok

So while it was apart i thought I might as well do the timing belt as i didnt know when it was last done.

As its a OHV the timing belt is behind this cover

Behind it, it looks like this

Looks like i was right to change it looking at the belt debis on the cover

Everything locked in place and belt & pullies removed

Crank nose looks like its had a hard life

I then found out there is an Oring behind the crank pully that needs replacing and they dont supply on in the belt kit So that was left and i turned my attention to getting the head back on.

Cleaned the pistons up and discovered it had probably chucked a timing belt before

    Head on

Exhaust manifold back on and rocker shaft fitted

Intake manifold back on, rocker cover fitted along with injectors, gloowplugs and injector pipes

And thats where it is at the moment. Hopefully tomorrow the belt will go back on, rad and IC back in (IC has been soaked in petrol as was the intake manifold) and then fire her up

Looks like the timing belt has been replaced with a modified bottom pulley before. On mine the belt had ridden off the bottom pulley and was happily cutting its way through the front cover!!

I will post up pica later but for now just the progress made.

Timing kit on and everything back together including new rad fitted. Took the bung out the top of the thermo housing as they say its best to fill it from there to find it goes round and round Plastic plug so all the thread has disappeared and its more of a stopper than a plug You can get brass ones so add one of those to the list on Monday. Go to put top rad hose on and p.nicholas (who is once again my assistant) notices its got a gouge in it looks like then the tensioner failed the loose belt flapping about cut a slit in the hose which is probably where all the steam was coming from

I decide to see it if starts before putting the coolant in just so i know its all timed up right. Crank it over a few times and the battery dies Start the 200 up and slap some jump leads on it. It just turns over and over and over As its a diesel you just need fuel and compression so lets check the easy one first Crack one of the injector pipes off and try again - no fuel Take the pipe right off the injector - still no fuel.

Remove the fuel filter incase the veg oil had gone solid sitting there fore 3 weeks doing nothing, looked ok. Crank engine with no filter and still no fuel The engine has a lift pump on the side of the block that pumps the fuel into the fuel pump via the filter. We remove this and its fooked Its basically very similar to an actuator on a turbo, there is a diaphram/piston and a rod that is moved in and out by an arm that is actuated by the camshaft. The arm had snapped off the rod

So it seems in sympathy with the rest of the engine it too decided it didnt want to work any more

    So todays shopping list is

    Top hose
    Lift pump
    Thermo plug

    All of about £25

I also took off the vac pump whilst i was at it as it was leaking - reason, some fookwit had got the silicon sealer out again and smothered it in it. But only on one side of the gasket and so it leaked on the other

New gasket on and hopefully fixed

    Oh well its 'nearly' fixed

So there was nothing wrong with the head, or head gasket, just a split hose?

Possibly Although i dont think that would make the coolant erupt from the expansion tank

    Famous last words

Upon jacking it up i have found both front wheel bearings have play in them Also the drivers caliper was fooked so had to order a new one. Will probably strip othe old one down and refubish it when i have time. Looking at the swivel joints they are also pitted so might need replacing

    Some pics

How many miles are left in these

    Pitting on the swivel joint

Those swivels need changing - they have to be smooth to hold the oil in the hub I seem to remember. Long time since I had a landy but recently bought Bubble's.

Hi Tim, you must be Grinder off SOC

Yer i know they need doing but they will have to wait I checked yesterday and the swivels have one shot greese in them so it doesnt piss out as much as oil would do.

Right turned out the hub nuts were just loose so nipped them up and no play in the wheels I have 2 wheel bearing kits though for when they eventually do go

Changed the caliper and fitted the new pads and all now appears well

Also fitted a bee sting aerial on the roof (as the wing mounted one had to kept being put down when greenlaning or it got bent) and my twin flashy amber receovery light

    Will get some pics tonight

You can repair the swivels to a certain extent by filling in the pits - they just need to be smooth - liquid metal and wet and dry works, as does car body filler

    And its dead again

Friday night it started to make this noise

Was only noticable above 30mph and was coming somewhere from the middle to the front. Did some checks on Saturday, dumped the gearbox and transfer box oils and found this on the transfer box sump plug

Took the inspection plate off and found several gears all missing several teeth

So it now needs a new transfer box
