S14 "Spector", never ending project going Widebody...

Now that I'm a member of SXOC I thought about writing something about my never ending S14 project on these forums too.

For the past 2 winters I have been building the car in a cold garage. And living in Finland cold really means COLD. Often like -25C inside the garage
But thanks to a mate I now have the car in a warm garage for this winter

For starters here is a list of the mods I had last summer:

    • Garrett GT2860R R.I.P
    • Denso 550cc injectors
    • Walbro
    • FMIC
    • Apex'i dual funnel
    • Apex Sensible catback
    • Apex flexi downpipe
    • Apex turbo elbow
    • H-Dev tubular manifold
    • Apex alloy rad
    • H&R Springs
    • Apex locking collars
    • Z-Power custom map
    • Z32 fuel filter
    • Apex strut braces
    • SSQV copy BOV
    • Apex short shifter
    • Driftworks lightweight flywheel
    • Exedy ultra fibre organic clutch
    • Autogauge boost and afr gauges

And here is a little pic and list of the stuff that I have gathered for install over this winter:

    • Garrett GT3071R .86 A/R
    • Brian Crower stage 2 cams 264deg/12mm
    • Tomei rocker arm stoppers
    • OEM rocker arms
    • OEM rocker cover gaskets
    • Supertech valve stem seals
    • SR20 valve spring change tool
    • Z32 afm
    • Apex Z32 afm intake kit (silicone hose won't fit the pipe )
    • Apex bling fuse box cover
    • SSQV recirc adapter
    • Exhaust poly hangers
    • Oil catch tank
    • Apex alloy pulleys

I also have BC valve springs and retainers, but I have seem to misplaced them somewhere and can't find them

Oh and I have a GT2 bodykit waiting to be installed too and some new lights.

And one more list of parts I still have to get:
    • 750cc injectors (propably Z-Power modified oem injectors)
    • VAG coilpacks
    • Wideband, oil temp, oil pressure and egt gauges
    • Bigger brakes (thinking of getting DB-Power 330mm front / 290mm rear kits)
    • Coilovers / adjustable arms if I can ever afford them
    • Nistune

Do you think there is anything else I would need?
I'm aiming for 400bhp+. Should be able to squeeze out 450bhp, but I'm not sure if the stock hg can take it...

I know I will have to get a better clutch at some point, but the exedy has only been bedded in (about 300km on it) so don't want to change it yet

I'm sure the transmission will not be able to take the power I will have for long so Skyline / Z32 box is on the list of things to get in the future. Also need a real LSD at some point.

I'm hoping the the stock bottom end will last one more summer and in a year I will be getting forged parts or maybe a stroker kit.

At the moment the car is losing lots of oil and I'm hoping it's the valve stem seals. If the cause however is the piston rings I might have to get the forged parts sooner, but I guess I'll find out when I get the old stem seals out.

Ok enough of blabbering and finally to the project itself.

I started taking the car apart today and here are some pics of the process:

First a pic of where I started today:

And this is how it looks now:

Looked surprisingly good under the rocker cover. Some wear on the exhaust cam, but not really any burned oil or any other crap there

A box full of parts taken out of the car:

Looks like I'll be needing a new filter again as this one has taken some damage. I think I really need stiffer engine mounts as it has had to move like over 5cm+ to get damaged like that

This is it for now. I'll be updating this thread as often as possible.

This looks like it's gonna be a nice build. Will keep an eye on this.

Wish I had a Garage like that to work on my car

I feel very lucky that I can keep my car in that garage for this winter.
Have been searching for a garage for years without being able to find any around here.

Why are you using VAG coils? I work for VW and they arent very reliable mate?
Looks like a nice project coming together though.

    Cheers Aj

They give a lot stronger spark than stock Nissan ones. And they are cheap as chips (29.40€ / £24 a piece)

I will use them as a precaution so won't have any problems with missfiring...

Got a bit work done today. Removed the downpipe, de-cat and catback.

Pretty tight space, but it's a warm garage so I ain't complaining

I was thinking of buying this Megan Racing rear silencer from a mate as the Apex twin exit one won't fit with the GT2 rear bumper:

Also I got a small bonus from work and some tax refund so I think I'll order Apex Gen2 coilies, alignment arm kit and rear subframe bushes.

What else do you guys think I need for the suspension?

I have been trying to decide which suspension parts to go for. It's doing my head in

I was already going to order Apex Gen2 Comfys and alignment arm kit when I saw that DW has an offer with 10% off everything.

Now their Pro Handling Pack looks very attractive as it's only ~£150 more than the apex parts if you count the bushes in.

Only thing that worries me about the CS2 coilies is that they may be too stiff for quarter mile. As that's what I'll be using the car for at first.

Any opinions on which kit I should go for?

looks like a good build up, can i ask what make is the FMIC? looks like to me that your still using a standard sized s14 battery? meaning there was no need to go for a poxy tiny one lol

It's just a normal chinacooler (600x300x75), but with custom piping.

I have some more pics if you want to see them...

Just ordered £1400 worth of stuff from DW

Ordered the Pro handling pack and solid diff mounting bushes.
Changed the coilovers from CS2 to HR as I think the softer ones will be better for drag...

As I said before they give much stronger spark than stock ones. And as I will be going for pretty high power figures I don't want to be limited because of a missfire...
