I presume you'd have to change the loom or plugs, or is it a case of simple plug and play?

I'll have to change the loom.

I'll propably order one from Z-Power:

Here are couple of pics of the progress:

These are for sale if anyone is interested

Headgasket gone? That could explain why it lost so much oil.

This week I'll finally have some time off work (4 days! ) so hopefully I'll get the engine out and apart

Well it doesn't really matter as the engine is getting a full rebuild anyway

if your fitting a metal head gasket then put a little bit of sealant on both sides of the gasket around that front cover

I'm pretty pleased at the progress I made during the weekend.
Got the engine out and started taking it apart.

I have never done anything like this before so it takes a bit longer than for someone with more experience

    Anyway here are some pics:

I guess these pipes are like art

At some point I started putting thing into bags and marking them to make it easier to put the car back together

Took a lot of effort to get the waterpump pulley off. Well I guess the pump is original so...

Only Nissan engineers can design something this simple to look so complicated

I guess I'll be needing new radiator supports

Engine bay after couple of hours with a WD40 can

They do give a lot better spark than stock ones and they fit straight into SR20, but you have to change the loom.

I'll propably get one from Z-Power like I said earlier on this thread

Do they also provide the revised dwell settings for the ecu?

I guess they can as they do custom maps for Nissans...

I will get my car mapped by Z-Power anyway so doesn't really matter for me.

IMO you should always get your car mapped after making changes.

Have made some progress with the car and will post pictures later when the mate taking the pics has time to edit them.

Took my engine apart and the block and head are at a machining workshop now.
Found out the cause for the oil loss. All of the piston oil rings were completely stuck

Later found out that the block has to be bored to oversize as it has so much wear. Also found out that it has been honed before as there was wear, but no "edge" in the cylinders.

Anyway got a call today from the workshop saying that the head has multiple cracks

Looks pretty bad, so I guess I'l need to also find a new head asap

Click the images for bigger version:

Anyone happen to have a spare head lying around? Need to find a decently priced head as my budget is already way overstretched.

And on top of all things a tire exploded on my daily Vectra OPC. Damn expensive those 17" winter tyres. Bloody 345mm brakes

Today I stated to work on the floor of the car. Here are some pics:

Insane amounts of dirt inside the wings:

Brushed all the loose rust spots and put some Würth Rost Stop base coat there:

There is a patch welded in the engine bay side of the arch so it's not as bad as it looks in this pic

    I'm using Valvoline Tectyl undersealant:

Got a few new parts from Apex, FRSport and Speedimports.
And got a bottom end gasket set too, but forgot to put it into the pic

Still waiting for CP-Pistons and then I can start rebuilding the engine

    Nice work so far mate.
Where did you get the new crank pulley from? Does it have the dampner in it?

    Cheers Aj

I got it from FRSport (USA). They didn't have it listed before, but added it after I asked for it

It's OEM S14 Nissan pulley, so it should have the damper.

I think it's time to update this thread.

The subframe had a bit of damage on it as the rear end has been crashed at some point:

Sandblasted some of the suspension parts:

Then gave them a few coats of POR-15:

Rear lower arm bush collars taken out:

Heat shields sandblasted and painted with Rost Stop Quattro primer:

And then painted them with Maston heat resistant silver:

A few more pics of the parts painted:

Not the best finish when looked at too close, but hey they are under the car so who is going to see them this close

Had the subframe glassblasted and gave it a few layers of POR-15 aswell:

    Again some POR-15:

    The painting equipment

    Diff, prop and driveshafts painted:

Undersealed the car with Valvoline Tectyl (click for bigger pic):

Painted the fuel tank shield aswell:

I know it's not done nowhere near as well as most of the cars here, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it starts to look. Would do everything better if I had more time

But the main thing is that it will be better protected agains rust
