A small update on the progress.

Diff back casing painted with POR-15 engine enamel

    Rear subframe built up:

A few bits blasted and painted:

INSANE amount of filth behind the plastic cover in front of the fuel filler pipe. And this is only about one third of the crap that was there:

    Painted the brake calibers red:

    Rear subframe back on:

Looking a bit better than in the beginning. This is how it used to look:

And here is how it looks now:

    A small update:

Installed the brake kits some time ago. I got DB-Power 345mm front kit and 290mm rear kit with grooved brembo discs, yellowstuff pads and braided hoses.

Had to modify the front calibers a lot to get them to fit. Don't think I will be buying this kind of kit again tbh as it's just too much hassle...

Changing the brake hoses to braided ones was a real PITA.

Had to put an extension to the left rear pipe:

    Front brakes installed:

Has a good clearance with the TSW wheels I have atm:

    Rear brakes installed:

Painted the intercooler black with Eastwood Radiator black. I'm very pleased on the result. Looks million times better that before

    Another shot from underneath:

Was a bit puzzled with the Apex PAS pump pulley as it has different amount of grooves than the original. Was told by kev that is will fit regardless of the grooves... Well will have to see when I get it installed...

As there was some radiator black left after painting the ic I painted the plenum with it aswell. Looks very good IMO

Cleaned up a few parts from the engine bay as they were veeery dirty and corroded.
    Before cleaning:

After a bit of time with brake cleaner and a wire brush:

Had a big setback with the engine build last week, but will tell about it more a bit later...

So about the engine... Couple of weeks ago I got a message from the place I purchased the Carbonetic Blade clutch saying that the manufacturer informed there was a batch of faulty clutches and they all needed to be returned.

And of course I happened to have a faulty one (was balanced by drilling the pressure plate instead of welding, making it weak...)

So I had to return the clutch. And the problem was that my crank was balanced with the clutch cover. So when replacing the cover the crank was no longer in balance. (yes I know that's really not how the balancing should be done, but for some reason the place I took the parts to had done it like that)

Anyway I had to have the crank balanced again. This time had all the parts balanced separately like it's supposed to be done.

Got the crank back last thursday. And on friday when I started to put the engine back together I noticed that there was a piece missing from the crank pulley

So I need to take it back to the machining shop again to get it balanced and repaired. (it's a about 60 miles from me) Pissed me right off tbh...

Anyway I finally started building the engine. So far I have installed:
    - Piston oil jets
    - Crank
    - Main bearings (ACL Race)
    - Pistons (CP)
    - Rods (Eagle)
    - Conrod bearings (ACL Race)

A few pics to follow as soon as I get them

Oh ffs... Just found out that the machine shop had ****ed up my valves.

They had grinded the valves without measuring them. Now there are 0.4mm differencies between the valve heights

Looks like I need new valves

I guess I'll have to order Supertech valves from FRSport. And have the head worked again. It's going to cost me a fortune and won't be getting the car running anywhere in the near future

I'm just royally pissed off right now.

    Gonna go have some beer...

I guess it's time for an update...

Here are couple of pics of the damaged crank pulley:

And some pics of the engine:

Sandblasted and painted the rocker cover:

These are up for sale. Kyb shocks with H&R springs:

A pic of the general chaos going on in the garage. Also shows how little space there really is

There was a lot of paint missing in the frontend and engine bay so gave them a coat of POR15. Didn't turn out very well tho Well it's a lot better than before so will do for now

Took the GT3071R to a local turbo service for porting the wg. Well he did other modifications as well. And all this for £25 so can't really complain

    Continued building the engine yesterday:

Painted the text orange on the rocker cover. Here is a pic with one layer:

First two letters with two layers showing how it looks now:

I guess I should update this a bit. Haven't got the pics from the mate who has done the photographing so I uploaded the crappy pics I have taken with my Ixus. So don't be suprprised if they are not as good as the previous pics.

I'll post the better pics if and when I get them.

A few pics of the finished rocker cover:

    Timing chain install:

Crank rear seal and rear cover installed:

    Aluminum oilpan fitted:

Had a little problem fittin the Freddy oilpan. Looks like the chinaman hadn't finihed it properly

Arrow points to the problem spot. It should have been like the circled spot.

Modified it with Dremel. Will post pics of it modded as soon as I get them.

    Engine build a bit more:

Lifted the engine back with the transmission attached. Was a bit tricky, but in it went in the end:

Moved the car to my parents garage. And here is a pic of where I'm at now:

Had a bung for wideband welded to the downpipe :

And a bung for EGT sensor to the exhaust manifold at the same time:

I finally took the Apex twin fan / shroud out of the box. When I actually had the fans in my hands I couldn't help but to wonder if the cooling power of the fans will be enough.
They don't look too powerfull especially when compared to the viscous fan.

Got a few bits from FRSport. And looks like I ordered the wrong filter. This one is with 85mm. inner diameter and won't fit the Z32 AFM directly. I guess I should have got the one with 75mm inner diameter...

Finally my summer holiday began today! So I got time to work on the car again
I have been working 12-14h shifts at work for 7 days / week so

Today I installed Nistune. The installation was very easy as I already had Z-Power daughterboard and an IDE connector welded to the ECU.

    Nice little package:

    Nistune installed:

Cleaned up and polished the BMC heat shield a bit:

That's it for now. I'll be working on the car tomorrow so will be updating this thread a bit more regurarly now.

A few pics of the progress so far...

Sandblasted the exhaust manifold (H-Dev tubular)

And then sprayed Tech Line Satin Black ceramic coating on it:

Had to make new support legs for the rad as the originals were so badly corroded (I believe I posted a pic of them at some point):

Installed Apex electric fans and shroud to the rad:

Converted my copy HKS SSQV dumb to recirc using HKS recirc adapter and an o-ring.

I have been doing a lot to the car these past few days and here are some pics.

Radiator, electric fans and dump valve installed.

STRI water temp sensor in place. looks like the DIF water neck adapter was designed wrong and the sensor didn't fit when I had the original bleed screw in place. I had to replace it with a slim bolt. This also means that I won't be able to use the bleed screw. (not that I would have used it before either...)

Couple of pics showing the wiring of the dual fans.

I used Revotec fan controller wired to a switch in cabin where I can choose whether to use the controller or have the fans on constantly. I got on extra relay feeding the power to the fans.

Bought a bracket for the actuator from Turbo Dynamics and with that it fitted straight to the turbo after I turned the housing to the right position. £25 well spent

Outlet in place. (was surprisingly PITA to put in place, but got it there in the end)

Turbo, intake piping and first piece of the hot pipe installed.

Oil cooler found it's place in front of the rad.

That's it for now. Not much missing anymore and hopefully will get to start the engine either tomorrow or monday

    Scary
