We have one of those CMM machines at work but I'm not important enough to Blag access to it. That would make life easy. I had thought about making an wooden template.

It's locked in a building very few have access to. Plus I have to get the engine and box into work. It's not happening.

I was going to get the bell housing on the big upright lathe at work the other week, until I read how to split the box!

Got a link? Can't see why it would be much worse than a Z32?

Downloaded a z33 PDF manual, I expected the bell housing to split straight off, but you have to split the shifter bits too.

It's not beyond me at all, just couldn't be arsed rushing it just to get it machined whilst a gaffer was away.

Cool, sounds a bit more involved. Z32 is just take off the cover plate in the bellhousing, take out some circlips holding the shafts in place, remove a ball bearing thing and then undo the bolts and pull the front half off. Rear section is left with all the complicated guts

    An interesting idea from JWT:

Unfortunately, it sports an integrated bell housing, making this conversion difficult at best. By scrounging an automatic tranny bell housing from an automatic that was fitted to the same motor you are adapting to, this adaptor ties everything together. Either the 07+ 350Z Concentric Release Bearing or an aftermarket C.R.C. (Tilton) can be used. The no longer used VQ35 bell housing is cut away and the new adaptor replaces the original front sealing cover. This adaptor can mount a 6-Speed to a VG30DE(TT), SR20DE, KA24DE, or VH45DE engine. Adaptors for the VK56 and others will be available soon after the release of this adaptor. Contact Ben for release date or other information.

May have missed this, but does the Z33 gearbox have the same clutch splines as the S14?

Must do, because you use an SR20 clutch.

That JWT kit above says SR20DE not DET but does say to contact them for different applications. Doesn't look like it's going to be cheap though.

Add the Mckinney Motorsports shifter bracket and you're looking at a bloody nice conversion tho...

Money better spent elsewhere if I can get the bits made cheaper over here though.

As far as i know most RWD nissans all have the same spline.
    s13
    s14
    s15
    r32
    r33
r34 (appart from the 6spd getrag)
    z32
    z33

There are no doubt more that are the same.

That would be quite a handy way of doing conversions, i looked at it before as again most RWD nissans all use the same auto gearbox, which means only the bellhousings are differant engine side, meaning this conversion will fit most auto RWD Nissan housings. The bigest issue would be clutch release, but nothing a centre release hub cant sort.

Right im getting lost with the number of different boxes available for the 350z lol

Can anyone confirm the part number for the boxes we are looking for!

Im concerned that the 2007 box will be no good for our application.

Although if you wanted to do the conversion linked to above it would do the job nicely.

what are you guys planning to do about the prop if the z33 one is made from plastic? obviously the yoke is metal so are they just machining off the plastic part.

the zilvia plate is 3/8th's thick and alloy thats like 9.5mm if you made them out of steel you could make them 1/4 about (6mm) removing the spacer plate will gain you like 2mm

anyone got any under car shots?

ive stripped two third gears in less than 1000 miles on small case boxes so am weighing up my gearbox options.
