thats a great help! thanks, i have a stage 1 chip in the ECU already, though i think once i get a leccy boost control i can up that to stage 2, it will probably stay like that for a while and just drive and enjoy for a while, stage 2 is 250 - 280 i read, so that will be mental enough in a capri, for a while at least

Is it an ND Stage 1 chip though ?

The Stages aren't standardised in any way.

A tuner will define a set of "Stages" that a car might be tuned to and then write a chip to match that spec. It means you can buy a set of upgraded components and get a chip off the shelf that will work well with those mods.

Another tuner will do the same but choose completely different specs for each "stage"

e.g. HD Stage 1 does not equal ND Stage 1.

They are written for completely different setups.

Tuners that do off-the-shelf Stage chips that I suggest you look at are

Horsham Developments HD (Jez on here)
    Norris Design ND
    TurboNoz (Noz on here)

Apex do chips too but I don't think they do anything for a T3. I might be wrong.

ND stage 1 is the same as a HD stage 2. you can see the spec on the websites.

I haven't read the previous posts, so not sure if that helps.

Whilst they are broadly similar, they are not the same.

They say the ND Stage 1 will work with a T28 but I believe it was written for a T3. Other mods for the ND chip are only an upgraded actuator and colder plugs.

The HD Stage 2 is for a T28 off an S14 plus
    Free flow air filter
    Free flow exhaust
Boost controller to achieve 15psi boost pressure
    Uprated intercooler
    Super unleaded fuel (>97 RON)
    Uprated fuel pump

If you looked at the actual maps, I bet they'd be different.

    Not sure what you mean

Do you mean "Where should I take a feed for the actuator ?"

there is a hose outlet on the side of the wastegate and one on the top, the diagram i have just says "to inlet" but i have no idea where abouts on the inlet, there is the port in the inlet itself (i currently have a boost gauge take off here) and one on the TB underneith that is currently blanked off (came that way)

OK. I think I get you now. You are after a place to take the boost to feed the external wastegate, right ?

Your choices are to use a 1/8 npt takeoff nipple and tap into one of :-

    the turbo housing
    the hot pipe
a silicone hose before the hot pipe
the out pipe on the inlet side of the turbo

or use the feed from the plenum by the butterfly that is supplying your boost gauge.

The latter may give you problems with spiking as it is a long way from the turbo.

There is an interesting thread on the go at the moment. I'll link it in...

    Can I just ask...

What's a "T3"? I hope you all realise that's just a flange and doesn't represent the actual turbo specifications in any way other than that...

Cool project though, I love Capris, one of those cars you shouldn't like but somehow do..

You shouldn't need to weld anything mate.

You can fit a takeoff to the black pipe that is the first pipe after the blue silicone coming from the turbo. That's what we call the hot pipe (coz its before the intercooler).

Just use a 1/8 npt tap and then fit a 1/8 npt nipple and make sure you get a good seal by using PTFE tape.

I assumed he was talking about a T34 off a Cossie....which is what ND wrote the Stage 1 chip for I believe. I could be wrong.

    the specs are:

Compressor AR:.50 Compressor Wheel Exducer: 3" Inducer: 1.99"
    Turbine wheel: Inducer:2.56", Exducer:2.2" Turbine AR: .57

    and can handle upto 27psi

n Jonny, it easier for me to weld as i dont have a tap and die kit

thanks very much for your help mate, its much appreciated!

Its a T04E by the looks of it. Good for 400-450 bhp. And only cost about £200. Will last fooking ages and wont be too laggy either. Prob about 1 bar by 3krpm and 1.5 by 4krpm
And when it does go pop just get another one .

ive not had one fail on me before at least 10k miles yet, one of them after a year and a half had a little too much shaft play for my liking so i replaced it but was still making 1.5 bar and 400bhp even like it!!
