Sitting in a car park in Sidcup

I didn't get far off the ferry

Halfway up the M20 the misfire got worse, and quickly got too bad to stay on the motorway. The A20 has no hard shoulders at all, so I've ended up in Sidcup. It'll drive around town, occassionally cutting out, but it's too sudden a cut for motorway now.
I've tried wiggling wires and cleaning the AFM again, but no joy.
The odd ticking relay noise is now on 2nd gear as well as first, even in neutral a bit.
I await the 'very nice man's arrival now

You've checked all the coil packs are still attached to the plugs? Enough fuel No pipes hanging off?

    How was the ring anyway?

    Ring was awesome beyond words
(Struggling a bit typing on phone just now)

I've not been into coils or plugs as there feels to be all cylinders involved, not a miss on one or two. Violent cut in power, then viollent kanhgarooing when trying to continue along.

Two days ago a tick noise started in what I think is one of the relays in the right rear wing.
I didn't know there were relays in there, but I've just looked, and there are two.
Tick noise started only in overrun in first gear, but is now happening much more.

Power cut is intermittent. . It's been fine driving around Sidcup while I found somewhere convenient to break down

    Cosy, cheers for offer.

I don't think the fuel pump itself is at fault (80000mile old Walbro).
But just in case it is, would you have a spare one?

There's not a loom or something in the arch that's rubbed off?

Those relays in the boot on the RHS are diff cooler related Jon. Can't you just pull them out? Been driving fast have we?

I don't have one im afraid, you can do a few checks to see. Listen to it kicking in/whirring once ignition is on. Or if it's sending fuel through the line, can't remember if they have a filter after the pump but before the engine, but if so and the pumps dead then pour fuel into the canister/filter and it can fuel the car some way.

Did the same to a friends focus the other day and it travelled about 1 mile each time on a 3 mile limp home journey.

Packs still attached to plugs, but I do have lightening at the back. Looks like melted or broken down insulation.

Could the ticking be a blowing turbo gasket and thanks to the ring you're melted the ignitor pack on the inner wing? I only suggest as I've heard of it before

RAC man sorted. Small black wire at the back of the rocker coverr arcing high voltage to the head.

I'm not 100% convinced that's the only problem though, because it was arcing away while the engine sat happily idling normally

But I got going again at 9pm. Now near Luton looking for Asda/Tesco to buy proper beer and some bloody rubber bands for the throttle. Foot's killing me again.

I demonstrated the tick noise to a few people while near the campsite. It sounded like it was coming from fuel pump area, and I don't think any of us knew the relays existed in the rear wing.

RAC man (from sitting in the boot while I drove around Sidcup) the bit ticking was a box marked AMP SPEED CONTROL. Something diff cooler related does make sense, but didn't help with tonight's problem.

Diff cooler thingy playing up and wire on engine seem to be unrelated, but both caused by the heat/stress of the ring driving, or so it seems.

And the RAC man's temporary repair failed horribly on my way home tonight. I'd forgotten how scary total power loss in the outside lane actually is.
Wiggling the wire fixed it. I suppose I should fix it properly sometime.
