Tom_W asked me to detail his Corvette around this time last year but due to his busy work commitments it went on the back burner until today. I got there at 8:30am, just as it started to rain. So the car was washed and quickly put in the garage. Then I clayed the car and set about masking up. Most of the panel gaps have a rubber trim in the gap, so I carefully masked these to avoid polish getting in there and I also wanted to protect the panel edges as all the body panels are plastic.
All masked up and ready for polishing:
Then it was onto the correction. For some reason I expected the paint to be quite soft, but boy was I wrong, the paint was very very hard!! The paint was only finely swirled and a few fine scratches here and there, but to correct these I ended up using Menzerna S500 on a 3M compounding pad, and even then I needed to work the polish hard and in some areas it needed a second set to remove fine scratches. Then to refine the finish I used Menzerna PO106FA with a 3M blue finishing pad. Interestingly despite all the bodywork being plastic I didn't have any problems with heat build up, in fact the panels stayed pretty cool throughout.
So after a long eight hours of correction the car was glazed and protected and looked stunning:
