Hmm, yeah, but I'd like 245s really, I want as much traction as possible, as the car is probably the most powerful I've ever driven, and I haven't had a RWD car for years. My S13 had 245s, and that was nowhere near as brutal as my S14a.

How many ponies has she got?

Mines at stg one with 215's on 17" wheels and I find it hard to spin the wheels even in the wet unless I'm really trying. Various other handling mods helping though possibly.

Thanks for that 225/40s and 235/40s it is then.

I will try putting the 45s on tonight though, and see what happens - if I can avoid shelling out £400 for new rubber all round I'd like to! What do I actually need to check for in terms of clearance?

Oh, and one more thing; my girlfriend was just in a local tyre/exhaust place getting her car looked at; she asked for a quote on 225/40s and 245/40s, and the guy said he would quote her, but he'd refuse to put them on the car because the rolling circumference was different.

My thoughts are "Well of course the circumference is different, but Nissan rolled these out of the factory with different circumferences, as do a shed load of other performance cars manufacturers" - surely this guy is full of wind? I'd understand if I was asking for a quote for 105/35s and 365/65s, but the difference between 225/40 and 245/40 is only 16mm.

It makes no difference if they are not on the same axel. You can even run different diameter wheels front to back if you want.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I just wanted a reality/sanity check. Guy was probably working some angle on my g/f, she knows zero about cars. Example: the Corsa she has had for the last six years, has never been serviced

surely the rolling radius has to be the same on both axles for the ABS sensors to correctly work and sense wheel traction

I put a 245/45 on the back just now - it was uber tight; it's not actually in contact with anything, but I could only just squeeze my forefinger between the tyre and the arch; the first bump I came across, the wheel would have hit the body.

I think I'm going to go with 225/40 and 235/40 - that's just 7mm bigger diameter on the front and 13 at the back. Until someone says something else and I change my mind again!

That's a mystery solved - the ABS light came on loads of the time on my S13, which was after I switched from OEMs to Buddy Club P1s with 235/40 on the front and 245/40 on the back.

Can you post pics of how your wheels look when fitted and specify what rubber you eventually run, im keen to lower mine soon and reduce tyre size to avoid ABS light problems

Should have ANY problems with ABS or anything running a slightly different diameter front to back. If the alloys are same width front and back why not just run 235's allround ?

I'd suggest getting the rolling radius as close as possible the same front to rear, Nissan ABS is horrific as it is, it'll only get worse if it thinks the front wheels are doing different speeds to the rear.

225/40/18 and 245/35/18 would be the closest match, or 225/40 and 255/35, or 235/40 all round as suggested.

S14 owners seem to put massively bigger than OE rolling radius wheels on as common practise, I'd stick as close to the correct size as possible, S14 speedos over-read massively as-is never mind with huge wheels on! lol

the wheels diameter are almost 10% bigger about 5cm. so that may be the issue as well as possible offset issues

    speedo will underread as well

you should be looking at 40/35 profile to keep the same rolling radius

    Thanks for the input everyone.

I wimped out in the end, and got 225/40s all round; cash is a little short at the moment, and I couldn't afford to order in tyres that rubbed and then have to fork out again for smaller tyres. Next time I'll go for 235/40 as there is a decent amount of space still.

    Cheers all,

    Will

    Here we are

Nothing spectacular I know, I'm not the first S14a owner by a long shot to run these wheels. And it's a little dirty, and these pics always look nicer taken in the sun. But still, I think it looks decent
