    Smile My Workshop

It's been a dream of mine for some time, to have my own Workshop.

Somewhere Clean, Spacious, Motivating to work in, and Cool to hang out at.

Built my first car in the street, outside my house, Then my mum's 1930's garage, where you couldn't open the doors, and finally in a local run down Industrial Unit.

None of which were massively inspiring.

With the property prices in and around London as high as they are, I've been looking further afield.
After looking at hundreds of places (literally) I think I'm settled on a nice little Unit, on a quiet Industrial estate in Alton, East Hampshire.

    It's just shy of 1200sq.ft

    Approximately 12m x 9m

3 Phase Power, Loading door, Water, Toilet, etc.

Most importantly, No Speed Humps anywhere !

It's been a long journey, But with the Legals being wrapped up at the moment, It could be the start of something awesome.

A picture of the Outside, as it stands.

A few shots of the Inside.

The Plan was to document it like any other Car build.
There should be lots going on, from work on the Unit, to installing Tools and Equipment, and Restoration of some Items.

And hopefully put my own touch on things as I go along.

I'll post up information of helpful People and Services I use in the process, and maybe ask the odd question as I go.

I hope some people find it Interesting, or useful.

Out of interest Will, how much are you paying for the unit and what are the business rates like? I'm still not settled in my place yet and don't really like the area due to the building site and 800 new homes being built metres from my place

I was swayed by the fact it was far cheaper than anything London bound, So I'll have a little commute every day.

I'm aiming to get it as Epic as I can !

Dude, you have no idea, A 2 post Ramp is going to be a Luxury.

Seems as I've only ever worked off a Trolley Jack and Stands !

    Yeah dude, Definitely.

It's been a really long time coming, Should have been in my own space years ago !

It's in it's final stages, Could still be a week or two until I'm in.

I'm amazed at how slow these jobsworths at Councils, Solicitors, etc actually work.

How do they find their way home at night ?

Thanks mate, I appreciate it !

Thanks Teggers, It won't be as involved as your project, but should be fun !

Unfortunately, It's Two Counties away, I live in Wimbledon, lol !

I'm going to buy myself a little 1 litre Yaris for the commute, As a return trip cost me £40 in the Soarer !

I'm going to get a fold down Sofa, So I can stay over if need be ?

    Yeah Zak, Feel free fella.

Once all the legals are in order, I'll be settled within a couple of weeks.

Hey Dan, I'll check that and get back to you.

I've been meaning to call you for a few weeks, with a brake related query.

And a beer fridge, tv, console, etc... Kettle, toaster and microwave are a must for any garage!

Lol! Yes - you have 4 solid walls and a door...

I deal with them alot in my place. Councils work VERY slowly, then they will all of a sudden want a job finished in a week despite the drawings and paperwork having been sitting on thier desk for a month waiting for thier approval.

I don't Drink, So the Beer will be for Guests, The rest will probably be full of Monster !

I've got a Kettle, Toaster and Microwave sorted.

Ken has kindly offered to help me out with a Kitchen Unit to house it all.

And I'll cut a Sink and Mini Hob into a Worktop.

Once I put a Mezzanine Floor in, I'll add a Flat screen and Console, As well as a Sofa and Table.

I took the 4 Walls and a Door for granted, I feel pretty lucky to have a Smooth Floor for the first time though, lol !

What makes me laugh, Is the fact that although they had pretty much made a positive decision about my planning permission nearly 2 weeks ago, As the application run's until the 20th of this month, they'll wait until then to inform me ?

They're obviously hoping a busy case load will grant job security when the government start axing council jobs next year !

It's taken about 4 Months to get to this stage, lol !

Thanks dude, That's very kind of you.

I have a feeling I might need some help when it comes to loading up Vans, and making a move down there.

    That is epic.

With a sofa bed, TV, fridge and microwave I'd happily live in that.
