    bahis's garage build

Okay so I have started to build a house for myself and a garage to go along.
Finally I'll have place to store / build my car during the long finnish winters

Anyway I thought that I should post a project thread about the garage here.

I must warn you that my english vocabulary in the field of building is very limited so if and when you notice errors please correct me so I will know better in the future

This is where we started in September 2011

    After skimming the topsoil(?):

There is about 60cm of crushed stone under the garage:

Foundation ready and drying inside the molds:

Molds off after couple of days:

Insulation done on the outside of the garage:

    Inside filled with crushed stone:

Made the wall frames from 2x6" boards so I can get 6 inches of insulation in the walls. Should help keeping the garage warm during the winter.

This is where I'm at now. Will be updating this thread as soon as I get something else done

Sure... Here is one drawing. The inner height of the garage will be 2900 so I can fit a car lift there

WoW nice looking garage and some nice looking land there.

What are the restrictions like for planning permission in Finland? Looks like a woodland area?

    looks good,

why have 2 spearate garages doors with an infill panel? i would have gone for a double width door personally

I imagine that's because you wouldn't want to take the whole side of the garage off when its 30 below freezing if you could just take about 40% of it off.

    Cool garage

Mainly because if you open one huge door all the warm air will escape...

edit. Yeah just like Jonny said...

fair enough, you could have gone for rollser shutter doors, or the panel garage doors, that slide into each other, so you could open half the width or full width.

(not all doors will do this i know, as you need an interlocking channel down one side of the door)

Is the room at the back a "dirty" room ? ...so you can make sparks and clean things without covering the cars and the other bench ?

Have you thought out the electrics ? What are you going with ?

And the doors ? Insulated roller doors ? Up and overs never give a good seal

I'm interested as I'm just kitting out my double at the moment.

Not a bad size that. Your cars on the drawing are a tad small though. A 200sx is about 4.7m long and that will leave you about 600mm each end of the car when it's in there.

It's looking good though. How much insulation are you packing in there? Insulated floor slab too?

Wow - looks nice there I love mountainous/snowy countries. One day I'll move back to one...

How many cars are you planning on putting in there? Jst the one and you'll have plenty of space to work on it. 2 and things might get a bit tight. More info on the house too please!

IIRC most of Finland that isn't cliff-face/mountainside or otherwise vertiginous is woodland...
