Been flat out over the Christmas break.
Also got a gearbox, adapter, flywheel and clutch for the car.
R154 box and adapter, need to get a hydraulic Bearing and uprated clutch but for now this will do.
Meanwhile I've been tackling the dreaded rot :/
It has completely eaten the rear quarter sills and alot of surface rust.
Had to cut it all out.
I know ideally a new shell would be best but I'm not prepared to reshell yet.
So I've repaired what I can.
My Welding ain't great lol
I've used thick galvanised steel, hopefully won't rust again lol
After several hours of welding I've finished the two sills
Since I'm welding I thought I'd get round to fitting my hydro.
I want to keep interior in the car and didn't want to cut up my centre console for the handbrake so after a bit of thought I came up with this idea.
First cut out the tunnel
And used some 3mm box steel as a mounting plate.
I measured the clearance in the tunnel and doesn't foul anything
Finished mount
That looks pretty tidy to be honest, im getting mine sorted at a classic car restorers in feb, scared to death of what they might find once they start chopping! They recon its a days worth of work, hopefully wont cost the earth, wish I had the space and skill to do it my self! Top marks to you on this project!!
Thanks for that picture mate it helps alot
Nice thread, looked an absolute weapon in black. Be nice once the new engines fitted. Keep it up (thumbs)

Thanks, I did like it better flat black but was a pain to keep clean and couldn't polish it lol.
Once the car up and running may change the colour again
Next job was the boot floor.
As I'm going to have a HUGE rear diffuser to go with my HUGE BGW lol I need to have a lot of room under the boot.
Flat flooring the boot would archive this and make the boot tidier.
So cut out the rotten boot and it left this
Now I used 1.2mm galv and after almost killing myself from the fumes This was the finished floor
Need to tidy up the welds and add some bracing to the underside to stop it rattling, ill use some angle iron for this.
Anyway that the welding on the rear done at last, I'm going to tub the front arches and then I can paint the underside.
It got very messy round the car lol.
Another couple of jobs I don't is wire wheel all the stonechip and rust off the underside and strip the rear subframe down

Another day another job,
A couple of days ago I started the job of tubbing my front arches.
I know I don't need them but I wanted to coz I can so I did.
Started by removing the old arch.
As my old mask had died I thought I'd treat myself to a new one
Now I had a mask I could start fab and welding
I don't like the huge tubs that alot of people do so did a different version
After a hour or so of welding if finished one side.
I'm happy with the result and will use a little filler to tidy up the joints.
Also my 1UZ mounts turned up.
Finished the other tub yesterday, I'm happy with the end result.
I've got a bit of tidying up to do and then rub the entire front end down to bare metal ready for zinc 182.
I've now desided that this is the worst job in the world and I hate it lol,
Almost became deaf using the wire wheel on grider so had to buy some muffs.
As I'm also going to be making my own exhaust and some other bits and bobs, I've now got a new welder thanks to work needs.
Can now stick, mig and tig when I choose

Cracking work there James! Isn't that angle of the tubs going to effect steering lock though?
You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!
Wish I had the skill, space, time, money and skill (worth saying twice) to do this to mine. Your weldiong looks really pretty good I don't know why you were unhappy with it in your earlier posts.

Thanks Nick, shouldn't be long and ill be rebuilding it
Thankyou Paul, No shouldn't if my measurements are correct lol. I'm also running a wider track with spacers. Wasn't fussed on having huge tubs like some I've seen.
Thanks I'm just a little fussy. It is getting better lol

A really inspirational thread james, even better when seen in the flesh
Thanks Gerry, I'm hoping to sort out a small day down mine to sort the wiring out
Over a week later and I've almost finished rubbing down the engine bay ready for primer. I can wait for this horrible job to be over as I've had a gutsful of it.
Hopefully it should last a few years now one done.
Next job is to lightly sand all the metal to key it and treat any surface rust around joints and prime with zinc 182 followed by high build primer then a top coat of 2k gloss black, I'm going to stone chip the arches.
I can then start rebuilding
holy moly!! awesome goings on here!!
keeping an eye for updates!!
