I was just answering the op's thread title

Ring a proper insurer who know what they're talking about, otherwise it's a 200sx import tell them it's a 2 litre the underwriters then sort it out for a quote

Most insurers that don't specialise in imports wont have cars that were only ever imports in their database I'd imagine, 180sx was never a ukdm, wereas 200sx and silvias (ok not since s12) were ukdm

Yep, when I had a skyline gts, direct line didn't have it on their system so I had it insured as a gtst with them for the remaining few months of my policy with them, although I clearly let them know it was a non turbo.

so do you think i can take out a policy with admiral and just insure it as either a 200sx or silvia? surely aslong as the correct engine is insured its alright?

Yep exactly the same with me white gts NA r33 skyline with a 2000cc engine, shit slow insured as a 2.5gtst as they couldn't find anything close all the documents read as 2 litre but the premium was the same as 2.5 t engine

Thats not what the car is. Try a specialist insurance company.

Insuring it as a 2.0lt Silvia is not the same as a 180sx.

Try the following for quote on imports. Insuring the car as anything but what it is leaves you open to liability.

    Sky
    A-Plan
    Adrian Flux

I have the same problem over here mate, and most places won't even quote as it's an import/high-performance/unlisted car.

What I usually do is tell them it's the japanese import version of the 200SX (RPS13), and they normally go to the underwriters to get a quote. In my experience most insurers have just put it as "200SX" on the policy but with a note on the system that I've declared it as the above, that way I'm covered in the event of a claim.

    Good Luck!

doing it the way you suggested (insuring as silvia with 2.0) will probably satisfy the police if you get stopped, however in the event of a claim, i would be very suprised if they paid out.

^ exactly this. They wouldn't. I've been told in the past many times by an operative on the phone one thing. Then after me paying a whole new story comes out from somebody else. If your policy doesn't state 100% what you drive - then you aren't insured, simple as that. Usefully though if you are 'misquoted' at any stage (and they record calls so you can't BS this) you can use this to cancel your policy at any time and waive any fees other than the cover you've had up to that date. That saved me £360 the other day, and £200 a fortnight before due to sloppy insurance agents talking crap! Goes across many businesses btw - BT are the same, if they "don't tell you" that you're liable for an engineers fee if they arrive at your door and it's your equipment at fault - all fees are waived

    ^^THIS^^

If you have an accident, your value will be a 2.0lt Silvia not a Kouki 180sx.

You'll struggle to get a genuine payout.

worst case i would imagine you would be done for insurance Fraud, as the car is not what its insurred as. And or possibly not what the V5c says it is

Yup, speak to a specialist insurer. Hardly any of the mainstreams will go anywhere imports, let alone for someone your age.

If you haven't sealed the deal on the car yet, I'd advise you to get a proper quote for the car of that type. I've got a nasty feeling it's going to be cripplingly expensive for you
