    Problem found and fixed.

    It wasn't the plugs on the AAC or Water Temperature Sensor being swapped over. I suspect that happened when I was trying to diagnose the problem, adding a further problem to the original one. Not the first time it's happened and pretty sure it won't be the last. Double numpty icon time.

    Plugs all back in the correct place and a bit more checking, turns out that the throttle position sensor wasn't correctly adjusted.
    Loosen, adjust, double check with multimeter. All now working as it should and back to normal idle.

    Still can't fathom why it was all apparently working fine with a split hose though... unless it wasn't actually split when in place, but gave up the ghost where perished when I pulled it off for access to the Alternator ? Who knows.
