Bought something on this forum, didn't receive what was advertised, seller says:

so I bought some wheels that were supposed to be 8,5JJ, when I received them they were 8JJ.

I mailed this to the seller, this was his responce :

I sold the wheels at the offsets and size I was told they were when I
bought them 4 years ago and have no reason to believe they are not
that size and have no way of checking them so unfortunately there is
    nothing I can do.
    what to do ?

If they were advertised as 8.5J and they weren't as stated. The seller is in the wrong in my eyes.

Yeah, I know he's wrong, but he says there's no way he can check it now, so nothing he can do about it...

ehm - you can check, and send picture proof back? Is it really worth worrying about .5" though? Tyre size shouldn't change much.

I think its not really worth the hassle for 12.5mm, you could get that with a slightly thicker tyre

cheeky though I admit but probably not worth the effort on your part

theres no excuse. And yes that would be an issue to me too. Ask for some goodwill back?

I've been sold wheels as 9.5J when they are only 9J, but they were fortunately better suited to what i wanted anyways.

Who was it? Be good to know who in the forum can't use a tape measure for future reference!

I'm guessing he's not local to you? Probably not worth doing anything about it unfortunately and seems the seller couldn't care less to the chances of getting some money back is slim.

Depends if your about fitment or not I guess. If I wanted a certain speck and it wasn't it I'd be pissed.

There's nothing he can do about the wheel width but he can atleast give you a refund or a good will gesture.

Sounds to me like he didn't actually know and couldn't be bothered to check.

Have you tried them on the car?? Do they give you what you want?

what you received isnt what was described.. plain and simple.

    seller should either

    a. offer full refund and wheels sent back

    b. offer compensation

all this ' do they fit'... 'Tyre wall will make up for it'...'0.5j makes no difference' is completely irrelevant.

if seller refuses either 'a' or 'b'. name and shame as i don't wanna ever buy from them.

and to add.. working out the J of a wheel takes moments.

Technically yes but i personally would have better things to do than argue over 6.25 mm either side of the rim

I was trying to offer some perspective to the buyer,

Just because everybody loves a witch hunt, it isn't exactly helpful now is it.

Could have been a lot worse tbh,ET 20 turns out to be ET 45 or something badly different then I'd be pi$$ed off,As 59bhp posted not terrible imo and not worth the agro chasing over 12.5mm width difference, risk you take when buying something not confirmed of spec via pictures with tape measure etc if they were cheap then swallow it imo

im suprised at that, and ill over looked the patronizing tone too.

given how pedantic people can be over measurements...id say thats a lot and i would be annoyed. half and inch could have a baring on the tyres. some people spend AGES getting fitment perfect...with literally mm in the balance.

the sellers 'ce la vie' attitude annoys me too.

but whatever.. they're not my wheels.

Don't agree with that. The width an offset of a wheel determines how appealing they are to a buyer. Low offset or wider wheels are much more desirable - end of. It would be a big deal for me. It could be the difference between clearing a coilover or brake calliper. I would expect compensation or a refund if it was me. It is the seller's responsibility to advertise correctly. Sounds like he got stitched up and thought he'd do the same.

I'm guessing the seller is: AndyS13

    The original advert is here

    enkei rp-01 4 stud 17x7 and 17x8.5

Since the seller is a paid-up member and not a guest perhaps the staff can have a word.

Advertised as 8.5J as well. May well be a genuine mistake or as Dave270r said he has been stitched up himself and thought he'd do the same.

I wasn't defending the seller, I was consoling the buyer.

They were indeed Enkei RP-01 wheels, and you don't have to use a tape measure or anything, it's right there on a sticker inside the wheel, can't miss it.

I already have 4 of those exact wheels, also in black. If I take pictures, the seller will ofcourse say those pictures are of my own wheels, not of his wheels.
Returning them is not an option, I already paid a 100 quid to get them shipped to my place.
