    S14 RB26 conversion

Unfortunately my sr20det has ran its life span doing well at 150k miles. Compression test done.... Very bad it's time for a new engine.

I been reading and doing a little research and thinking of going for a RB26 block. I need some help and advice cost wise and conversion wise. What's needed, approximate cost of RB26 engine and everything I need for a conversion....
Is it wise? Budget I'm looking around max £2000 all in, lower the better.

Anyone done a conversion like such, any advice?

Is it better to rebuild my block or go for rb26?

Confused you say block, do you mean engine as the rb26 is straight 6 and the 20 det is a 4 pot engine, also check the pric e of an engine as that is going to kill your budget as you need to look into upgrading alot more than the engine.

2k? Go rb25. I have gone past that with my 25 conversion. But my spec keeps getting bigger. Lol

Doubt your gonna be able to do it with £2000, looking at least £1500 -£2000 for the complete engine, rb25 gearbox £350 engine loom and being modified £300,propshaft £50 and to be altered in length by propshaft garage. Oil sump needs 4 wheel drive transfer gear removing and welding up. Loads of other custom stuff like exhaust, intercooler piping, engine mounts, etc. Will make money back on your engine and box to recoup some costs but guessing only around £300 depending on spec of parts oN engine obviously. started the conversion myself about 3years ago but after house an kid it has taken a back seat due to having no money, will be done 1 day!

You'll not do an RB26 conversion for 2k.... never in a million years...

Engine will be near 2k on its own

You then have to source a gearbox
    Mod the sump
buy a fitting kit or front subframe
    Sort out your wiring
Custom make your exhaust and IC piping

Budget 5k at least... because even it cost you 4k, its good to have a buffer...

You could do an RB20 or 25 for 2k but no way a 26. As said. The engines alone will cost you that

Is it better to go rb25 or rb26, I may increase my budget if it's worth it and let my s14 shell hibernate until funds are raised.... As I'm sourcing a economical car in the mean time and turning my s14 into a weekend car. Need to weigh out the cost aspects...and come to some kind of a decision.

Why do you think you need an RB over an SR?

Want to do something different, go for 6 cylinder. But might consider rebuilding my sr20 and see the cost aspect of that.

Its not really something "different" as its quite common. Its an expensive "difference" if you're looking for 300-350hp...
