Yup, it's another career thread but I atleast have some idea of where I want to go. I've been looking at a TeleComms Tech on the national careers service site;

Your work could vary in scale from setting up a communications network within a large organisation, to the installation of a home satellite system. Your work could involve:

-working with aerial rigging and related equipment
-installing mobile and static antennae on buildings or masts
-designing, building and testing telecommunications components and equipment.
Entry Requirements;

-BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Communications Technology
-City & Guilds (3666) Communications Cabling award (covers copper and fibre optics cabling)
-City & Guilds (3662) Diploma in ICT Communications Systems.

Now that sounds wicked awesome. I'd like to know how accurate the info on there is likely to be and if someone from the autotrade (and a bunch of years doing unremarkable office gigs) would have any kind of appropiate experience ? I'm plenty use to mechanical & pratical work and being out in all weather for long hours.
Also what kind of companies would I likely be getting involved with ?

Note; I've been in the auto fastfit trade for about 6 years after doing office work for about 8 prior so I've left it late at 31 years old but I don't have any family commitments or unrealistic expectations of money or whatever.
