    ML430 Family Wagon

As some of you know I have a baby on the way in Feb, as such I have bought an ML430 for 3 reasons:-

    - 4 star N-cap rating
    - Chances are it may be snowing whilst labour occurs as such I don't want to run the risk of not being able to get to the hospital
    - V8

I've had the ML for around a month now and I quite like it, has the get up and go it should, build quality could be better but that's expected of a Merc of that era. I am on the war path to fix these niggles.

I love the brakes too, Brembo 4 pots up front and Brembo 2 pots on the rear, seems to stop well

I have a few plans for it, which I'm slowly carrying out

The list I have so far is:-

    • Fit black leather seats, the seats I have at present I can only describe as suicide grey. They are just such a boring colour

    • Flock the grey parts of the dashboard in black

    • Paint the horrible walnut in Silver

    • Fit LPG system to keep the future costs down

    • Smash out the insides of the pre-cats as they are breaking up and creating a noise.

    Watch this space.

    Little update on this:-

Got the rear black leather seat fitted, the seat was originally out of a 2003, so wasn't a direct fit in my 1999 ML, I had to weld in some captive nuts and change over the seat belt buckles but once those were done it was plain sailing. They are much more comfortable than the old leather seats

Next I gutted the cats, one or 2 of them were breaking up inside and as I'm going to be running LPG the cats are no longer needed to be road legal so out came the angle grinder and the air chisel, made quite a lot of dust though.

I then proceeded to sort out the brakes, the front discs were below their minimum specification, so I changed all 4 discs, pads and rebuilt and painted the calipers, and fitted some of our HEL braided hoses. Might as well do it once do it right when it comes to bakes:-

Still to come, LPG fitting (Tank is in, injectors are in and the main front to rear line is in)
