N/A to Turbo Conversion - Where to start...

    Hi Guys,

I am new on here and have had my S15 for about three years...

Originally bought as 5 speed N/A 2ltr standard... havent really done naything to it at all and am looking at doing a complete overhaul on it and turning it into a bit of a track weapon (if possible) don't want to drift is as I think its too pretty to run the wall in.... lol

So where to start? I welcome any sugesstions

    Cheers

    Bex

Wouldn't buying an SR20DET and bolting the lot in be best? There's a guy on DW who turbo'd a DE and it wasn't brilliantly successful lol.
But, track fun isn't just down to power, I'd be looking more at getting the handling/braking up to scratch first!

You'll want an engine complete with most ancillaries (manifold, turbo, downpipe, CAS, coils, AFM, injectors, loom, ECU, igniter, NATS stuff if from an S14a, etc.). You might as well fit a clutch while the engine is out and get a front mount intercooler.

Then it's just a case of bolt in and wire up...

Dont be too quick to pull out what you have in the car already if it works perfectly well. Made that mistake myself!
I also agree that a DE+T isn't going to be as good as a full DET

I'd get hold of a DET engine that has had a failure, and build it up using all the bits you want. (If it is for 350hp plus you'll need to think about doing away with standard DET pistons and con-rods anyway) Engine internals are a surefire way to blow lots of money though!

If you have standard Spec S brakes, you want to upgrade them for sure. Cheapest option is skyline brakes (various shapes & sizes) I found this useful when I changed mine:

Oh, and you are going to have 4 stud hubs, but need 5 stud ones, so throw the baby out with the bath water and get Skyline hubs and brakes all round (BMC too), then get another set of suspension arms have them powdercoated and polybushed, then fit them all in one go. Happy days.

Have a look on s15oc, there's quite a few aussie's that have done de+t conversions with good results when mapped, at least you get the use out of the na engine you already have in. Then handling and braking mods!

It really does not make sense to spend money on turboing your DE engine

Look at the money required to turbo your current engine then look at the cost of simply buying all the DET parts.

N/A to Turbo Conversion - Where to start...

    Buy a sr20det complete

    Cheaper and easier.

Plus need a bigger clutch and fly as a n/a one is tiny

    Boxes are identical.

Ive done a engine swap on my s15 just buy a either a cheap complete s14 with a good engine!! or a good used sr20det.. its alot easier to swap the engine than mess around trying to turbo the de motor while your doing the swap change the clutch/flywheel get a fmic, 255ltr fuel pump, etc
