    VW Phaeton - Avoid?

These are getting temptingly cheap for a massive barge waftwagon...

3.2 V6 FWD is the one I’m looking at full kit and good history.

Are they troublesome ? - they are after all somewhat complex, anyone done any prior research ?

Always loved those things. Remember a review by Clarkson on Topgear being impressive... Attention to detail was supposedly pretty damn good

I was looking at them recently. Apparently they rust really badly. Will try and dig out the other info I got later.

Never heard anything bad, mind you, I've never known anyone who's owned one. Is it not basically an A8?

I've been looking at these recently too - great minds and all!

They're cheaper alternatives to an A8 but with just as many toys.

Looks like theres a range of engine options too.
    2.7 TDI
    3.0 V6 TDI
    3.2 V6
    4.2 V8
    5.0 V10 TDI
    6.0 W12

The LWB versions also have electronic climate control options for the rear passengers.

Apparently the V10 is an incredible motor, but due to EU emissions are no longer sold. I believe theres about 80 left in the UK so they don't come up for sale very often.

Also, some have black leather interior and some even rarer still have black trim instead of full wood.

I have heard some tales of rust on rear doors etc but nothing yet that says catastrophic. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough?

Wrong wheel drive in a Luxo barge is full of wrong.

Just looks like an even larger Passat (if that was ever possible)

Wow look at the weight, just shy of 2.5 Tons

Deacon won't own it long enough to worry about rust!

Amplified version of VW's usual blandness/ugliness?

ah ... that would explain why the 444bhp version with AWD only managed a 0-60 of 6.1 seconds

    I've always liked them,

Would suit you down to the ground (for about 5 minutes) Deacon. Make an excellent LM2014 barge too (if you keep it long enough!)
