It's not slow, it's like a td5.... No torque until the turbo is blowing, as soon as it touches anything rough or has anything to drag it's stall city or clutch slip from the revs needed to make it shift, but then in my day to day trim and load it's 2800kg, then the generator I drag if full of fuel is 2950kg coming close to its max total train weight 5900kg'
    5900kg!

But the hilux's with the same.box and tool kit on the back have no issues at all, they will pull off at tickover uphill on rough dirt and stone

When it's moving and got some boost in there it goes well and may have even broke the ton a couple of times, but there is zero low res power, where you want it in a derv work horse.

My td5 disco 2 was the same, not quite enough revs pulling into a roundabout and they just stop.and crawl up the revs like a special Olympics hurdler. As do all the rangers on our fleet same shape as mine. The older mazda shared ones are pretty good though, much more like the hilux

our transits are the same, when fully loaded or towing they stall/need to be reved like mad or loose all power and crawl off like in limp mode, its seems to be a common feature of low capacity derv engines in stuff that should be bigger

Iv got a disco 3 and it tows so well.

Although repair cost can be high unless your willing to do them yourself.

Which I'm guessing you would be.

But will be intergalactic milage for 10k

People's thoughts on the Navara are interesting - I'm seriously considering a Pathfinder, which is just a Nav with an enclosed body.

Having seen so many of the last navaras with the engines sh1tting the bed I'd be very cautious myself. However the newer navaras do look good and the pathfinder that a neighbour had looked ace too, he only sold it as he refused to pay over 450 quid road tax....

Yeah I would avoid the D22 with the suspect engines(only certain vins and builds iirc) tho the farmer that delivers the hay and straw his is on 174,000 miles and you know been a farm motor its been abused from new. he tows a massive brain james trailer with at least 35 bails on 10 in the bed.

The new navara is the best one going as a all rounder. it doesn't just put like a train it could pull the train!!!!!

I test drove one about 5 years ago - it was pretty ropey. The Diesel engines are from the previous gen Shogun so very agricultural..

Do like how they look, but to be honest at my grand old age (32) I want something newer that's less likely to demand time to fix. I'm thinking nearly new.

I have had a d40 navara for the past 4 years, only problem i had was a falty alternator which was fixed under warranty. The cars been faultless and has a few nice touches in the cabin. It drives very car like and averages about 28-29mpg around town and providing you drive at a reasonable speed achieves about 34-36mpg on a run

    Worth considering imo
