How much is a fair market price for....

...sand blasting, cleaning and re-painting / powder coating an S13 rear subframe, the rear suspension arms and the front lower arm.... ?

Ballpark figure I should be looking at for a decent quality job ?

And on the paint front, when looking for longevity of finish, is powder coating as good as / better than / worse than good old chassis paint ? Bit confused by the multiplicity of various opinions on the subject plastered all over t'interweb...

Somewhere between 50 and 70 quid I reckon. Subframe is in the £30-£50 bracket usually.
Think I paid about 15 just to have mine blasted.

I then painted it myself using POR15 - Problem with powder coat is that it chips, then water get sunder it and it starts flaking. POR15 or Epoxy (which would be my choice) should hold up much better

Frosts.co.uk. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-pa...int-473ml.html It's a sort of nuclear shield that never comes of everything. Ever. Epoxy mastic is supposed to be a bit better though - POR15 is great, but needs a LOT of prep, and has to be painted over as it doesn't like UV.

I got a quote from a local place for a sand blast and powder coat on an S14 subframe at £100. £60 from Dan sounds like a bargain!

A decent powdercoating place will zinc coat it before the powdercoat so that any chips will self-heal.

I've not been that impressed with POR15 TBH. I'm using Hamber Bilt stuff on my S13. Everything I've done so far has lasted well after getting stripped back to bare and painted with Electrox or HB Weldthrough zinc primer.

60 quid does sound like a good price for a coated subframe. Recently, I paid more for a frame with bushed lower arms and DW subbie bushes.

Not sure. I had it blasted without primer, parts of it went orange fairly quickly so no primer was a mistake tbh.
I ended up using electrox thinned with xylene and sprayed using a compressor as primer with 2k (kuro) black on top, dynax within box sections. Done this most rear parts, hubs, lower arms etc
Held up reasonably well, I would probably try epoxy mastic and top coat chassis paint if I done it again.

When people mention POR15, it's a brand but we are normally taking about this:
    http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-pa...int-473ml.html

It's meant to be painted onto blasted or rusty (not excessively) metal, it's very thin and runny but sticks to roughish surfaces when wet . It does't stick too great when dry to electrox so I would suggest avoid using it over primer. It did stay put and clean however I could peal of large sections of the POR15 off the electrox primer.

I'm a big big fan of por15, some people have mixed results but I believe it's down to use, it requires loads of stirring everytime you use the pot, it needs careful handling, the metal either needs to be rusty or prepped using the por15 stages.

but when done properly it's fantastic stuff that really does stop corrosion and provides good protection

I was very happy with the price I paid, mate Was just saying I thought Dan's looked well priced.

If there are any S13s left by the time I come to sell it on, I'm sure I'll get my money back.
