    Crack on block

    Hey all,

In process of doing my head gasket this weekend, and discovered what appears to be a crack.

    See pic

(also not my engine just for reference)

Should this block just be written off?

Its not a blatant gaping gap just you can see a little bit of a lip

I would source a new one tbh, it's not exactly expensive for a decent bottom end.

Er, I wouldn't want to run it with a crack between the jackets. Thermal expansion and all that.

I wont be running it fully, Literally just in place so that I can move it about on the drive ( gravel drive - hard as hell to push it on )

When you finally pull apart, turn it into a smaller version of the the top gear coffee table, and sell it on the 'bay (or keep it)

I don't see the point of this thread if im honest.

you probably could save the block (well a mchine shop),but after everyone told you
it's not worth it as they are basically ten a penny your going to run it anyway

Sorry don't mean to sound like a twat but you asked they answered, you didn't listen...

I think you may have mis understood what I have said,

It wouldn't be run on the road or anything, literally would be covering about 5 metres forward or back.

How could it be saved ?

you could probably get it cast welded and decked, probably only worth it if it was a relic and short on spares.
that work would be a lot more than a good block would cost I would of thought..

Or darton sleeves which will then be a proper 2.2 not stroked, all depends on how much money you want to spend on it.
