N55 actually has slightly less tuning potential. For a tuned motor, go N54. Still love my 335i although its not quite to the level of docs car!

I just bought a 335i, had no idea the tuning potential was as good as it is.

Do you still have COBB fitted? I'm going down the MHD route, not going to be downloading any maps, just fancy it for the monitoring.

It's mental, download an app to your Android, plug it into the OBD port and you can install maps and monitor almost anything, I couldn't believe it ha!

Aye, Im still on Cobb as I dont want to leave the insane custom maps but Im tempted by MHD, it looks very good. Theres quite a few 335's with 5-600hp, they seem to be a lot more common than 135i's and get used for grad racing a bit too.

Top tips Ive found - 550i clutch is straight fit and god for 600lb/ft+, walnut blasting inlet is worthwhile, remove clutch delay valve and spring ASAP and if you can get a n LSD on the back, do it, transforms the car and will allow burnouts too

Yeah it's mental how much potential they have, mines recently had the turbos replaced at BMW as well so that was a major selling point for me, I don't quite think it's as simple as the S-Bodies to upgrade the ole' turbos is it ha?

Awesome man cheers for that.. and the walnut blasting, good to find someone in the UK who has done it. Anyone you would recommend and what did it cost? Mines is the auto flappy paddle number, is the CDV still needed for that?

I've been looking at the M3 rear subframe swap as it happens, I was going to go down the route of replacing the arms with M3 ones and seen a subframe for £250 so was severely tempted, but for the moment I'll fight every urge, still have my Silvia hiding in a garage feeling sorry for itself.

Awesome mate I love mines. I was going to get a JZX100 but seen the 335i and went for it. Don't regret it at all. Although be prepared to pay a decent bit servicing it.. £125 for 6 spark plugs from BMW, although mines did do 50,000 miles so you get what you pay for. Tell him to do it. If he find a manual definitely do it. I couldn't find any.

I got my blasting done by A1BN in Stevenage, IIRC it was about £250 but I had them change the plug while they were there and mess with the dump valve pipework a bit too. As standard the 1 Series is a bit wooly on the handling side, the 3 series more so but with some M3 arms and decent damping they are actually pretty good, add 450hp to the mix and youve got a real weapon.

Mark my words, sooner or later people will realise the potential of the N54 and the prices will go straight up, they are an amazing package for the money.

Its blasted with broken walnut shells while still on car, I think the idea is that if they do get into cylinder they wont smash anything up. Very popular with the BMW boys, imagine it would help with most cars though

Doc your car is absolutely fantastic. I just bought a 2012 118 coupe in black as a daily driver and I love it. Just wish I could have gone for the 135, always loved the 1 coupe shape

And for comparison the inlet port of 180K mile spark ignition CA18DET that has never seen a walnut shell in its entire life.

No soot induction valve, AKA EGR.
    Port cleaning injection.

Could be much worse, some Vauxhall POS I had the misfortune to wander past at a scrapyard, car was about 8 years old and otherwise in good condition.

Yes it just decokes the inlet and returns the car to 'as new' condition and spec.

I think it's because the injector is situated in the cylinder as opposed to the fuel and air being mixed before it, this means the backs of the valves don't get cleaned and allows the build up of carbon. Or something like that ha!

Got it booked it in on the 5th, £289 at a BMW specialist though ha! It's done 80,000 miles so looking forward to seeing the before and after.

Cool I thought so, it's just that same carbon buildup is an issue on loads of other engines, my mate had his Sirocco done a little while back because of it. IIRC they pulled the head on his car and cleaned it manually.

There's a bit of that, the rest is the breather design. Purge gas is nasty stuff.
