Mr Sandwichs bit of daily fun, r53 cooper s

Right so following form my tough day at snetterton I decided to get something different for a little while. I've never tried the quick fwd thing so decided il try an r53 cooper s this is to be a daily/ occasional track car.

Here it is as it stands.

It needs a few jobs doing so far I've swapped the drivers window regulator and pulled the front tints.

Then I decided to make my own stealth airbox to see if I could wake her up a bit. I found a decent guide on minitorque.com so followed that.

First I made up an adaptor for the k&n

Once this was done I fitted the filter and bolted it in

Then I had to fit a cold air feed to the back of the box and through the rear scuttle.

Then I got the scuttle fitted then finally the air box.

    That's it for now.

I had an R50 prior to the SX. Beware the lift off young Aaron

Had more bother with the arse end of my MINI than I have ever had with the SX

Great cars, the best one i think, i build the engines for the r56 mini and the newer f56 mini which have BMW engines instead of the peugeot ones they used to use.

Have looked into these a few times but newer found one of the colour/spec I wanted. Prices are all over the shop with some people thinking their 12 y/o poverty-spec car is worth a fortune.

The MkI definitely has the best looks and most character. Was mostly designed by Rover but I've read quality improved over the years. Engine is a fairly crude Chrysler design made in Brazil

Right time for a little update here, the old girlwas feeling a little down on power and the lack of service history meant i thought id have a little look.
I bought the bits to give her a once over new oil, filter, plugs and pollen filter.
    20150101_131213 by darransandwich, on Flickr

While that was out i thought id give the intecooler a clean as i figured it would be pretty dirty after 60k.
    20150101_131934 by darransandwich, on Flickr
so i blocked up one end and filled it up with brake cleaner to get the oil and crud out.
    20150101_132150 by darransandwich, on Flickr
then gave i a clean and it looks much better.
    20150101_132444 by darransandwich, on Flickr

Once that was sorted i thought id check my supercharger bypass valvle.the spring felt weak and it didnt seem to snap closed and upon inspection it was deffinately the issue.
    20150101_135047 by darransandwich, on Flickr

when i pulled the cover off i found this.
    20150101_135317 by darransandwich, on Flickr
so i made up a new spring by shortening an old landrover cylinder return spring down, adjustes the body so it sealed tightly and rebuilt it.
    20150101_140659 by darransandwich, on Flickr
unfortunately a couple of the tabs didnt survive so i solvent glued it together and secured it with a cable tie. that should last me until i can get a new one.
    20150101_140920 by darransandwich, on Flickr

Once that was sorted i went about changing the plugs and oil and re fittign ti all together and i have to say it goes an awful lot better now. runs sweet and pulls harder. now i just need to wait for a new pulley and exhaust.

R56 cooper s brakes are pretty good, but try and get your hands on a set of the cooper works GP model brakes, they're even bigger!

ah cool ill take a look around then. see what i can find i was hoping the 56 s brakes would be a nice cheap stop gap really.

Sharp dabs of left foot braking and that lift-off will kick the tail out mid corner

There's about 300 sets of them at work lol (i build the r56 and all the new f56 engines) They are the same size calipers as 350z but use a thinner disk.
