Where to live near Guildford?

Sorry for the random topic, but my wife and I are looking to move back to the UK, and her work have based her in Guildford.

We need to find a place quickly, so ideally want to know if there are any areas in the Guildford area we should avoid?

Anywhere within 10-15 miles of Guildford is the max commuting distance really

I'm not far from Guildford but don't know it to well, I suppose anywhere has crap areas but Byfleet down the road is quite nice and quiet, unless you live next door to Ken and *****!

OK, thanks. Will have a look at byfleet although nothing on our rightmove search has been there so maybe its too far? Or more likely there is nothing there in budget!!

Budget is what you will struggle with round Guildford.

What sort of house and what sort of price range ?

Alton is supposed to be quite nice and new-build 3-bed detached places can be had for around 400K. Its 20 miles from Guildford though.
3-bed semi/terraced places can be had for 300-350K.

The problem is Guildford is bang in the middle of the M3/A3 corridor so anywhere that is nice is v. expensive.

Woking, knaphill, St johns, mayford very easy commutes to Guildford and good areas byfleet bit further out and bit of a drive
