Trying to fit the brief and budget but a bit leftfield too

Dont shoot me its a vectra lol but you'll have change, how bad could it be?

Brave pill needed but lots of wood and you still have change for when/if it goes wrong.

    Hmm. Some good choices there.

I like the SAAB idea but wifey says it's gopping

No to the Veccy - even though it's the SAAB in disguise

Forrester wouldn't be a bad shout. I do wonder whether it's not just worth buying a WRX wagon though - did they do them on the later bug eye jobbies? Not up on Sooobaruuu.

I have to admit the 9-3 is better looking and the chrome doesn't do the 9-5 any favours

Subaru did do a WRX sports wagon in the Hawkeye but they are thin on the ground and look a bit...well.. odd. The Hawk-eye saloon is quite pretty.

8K would get you a WRX Hatch or maybe a ropey WRX-S hatch. 10K would get you a WRX-S hatch with a few miles on or a ropey STi hatch.

You're welcome to a ride in our WRX-S if you want to see what an S goes like. 310 lb/ft

EDIT: Oh, and the forester is a bit of a boat TBH. Legacy is a nicer drive.

They're the ones I think look a bit odd Each to their own, I suppose. All Imprezas are a bit marmite.

A little out of your price range but I was considering this

    http://jm-imports.co.uk/index.php/20...-wagon-auto-2/

Pretty sure you would get it for 9k

That gets fumbs up. Not sure it ticks the reliable box though

    I'm tempted by that...

I'm sure there were only 2500 made. And could always drop in a manual box through time. Quite unique I think.

X-Type Sovereign ? I don't like the look of them but they come as an Estate, they're cheaper than the XF and it might appease R being a Jag.

Otherwise, you are reduced to a Focus ST or similar mundane stuff like this

Last attempt to woo the wife

the spec d is a toned down sti on the outside with leather. But full gubbins sti underneath. (i fancied one of these but bought an m3 instead)

    my last attempt

Mazda 3 mps loads of change and its fast
this ones leggy but 2008 car you get a lot of motor for your money. The photo's dont actually do these justice. One in a work car park in red and its a decent looking car
    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...2-5l?logcode=p

    red one low miles

this has to be the winner harry

Alfa Giulietta, engine closely related to the GM/Saab one:

A few 159 estates around, but not low mileage in nice colours

I've been lusting after a Lexus 450h for a while, a seriously luxurious car that does over 35mpg and 0-60 in under 6 seconds.

With your budget it would have 80,000+ miles but does that matter with a car /engine like that?

Not being funny but is this a his and her car or yours that she might drive a few times. If the later I would ignore my wife. Regardless if i'm paying for the car id would ignore her anyway. They get their way with the house and sex.

One car two drivers; she has just as much use for it as I.

It is a bit death by committee though

Take it in turns. You can't both go on top

The XF is a saloon but has a decent boot.
I have just got rid of my XFS 3.0D.
Nice car but had a coupe of things i didn't like - seats were not particularly comfortable for me being the worst. Gearbox when in paddle shift mode was awesome though and much better than the BMW ones i have driven. Was quick but not quite as quick as my remapped 535D tho.
I moved to an E46 M3 for some fun

Ok so I've started looking at BMW 750i's - because that fits the original bill

It's just a shit load of car for the money. 9k buys you a newer car than anything else in luxury sector I can see
