    Board Games

    Anybody in to these?

I have recently got a few, and have friends with many, and it's amazing how they have come along from snakes and ladders, monopoly and scrabble!

This weekend I played a bunch of them, all very different, and all good fun!

I am talking about things like:

    Discworld
    Ticket to Ride
    Small World
    7 Wonders

There's hundreds of them out there it appears, grown up board games that aren't dungeons and dragons or warhammer, but stand alone fun games

I'll play cards against humanity, but anything else rarely ends well.

    Monopoly is an utter nightmare.

Played a star wars board game round my mates one evening for a laugh, turns out we spent longer trying to work out how to play it than actually playing the game, gave up and went down the pub.

Ha, so they're not a big hit on here then!

I find they often look complicated, but after the first turn or game it's in your brain, and they get more fun from there onwards

Some of you may be interested in the new generation of games... it turns out they've moved on a fair bit - I am a recent convert!

If you can, try 'Ticket to Ride' - it's excellent fun

Monopoly is the big hit in my house, with my 4 year old son as the banker, he absolutely loves it.

I play Risk! with the kids. My youngest is 11 years old and he has an amazing tactical mind. I used to play it with my Dad when I was his age and very rarely beat my Dad.
I've heard that Regicide is being developed (which is a game played in the Warhammer 40K universe). Be interesting to see how that turns out if it ever hits the shops.

Never really got into board games because the graphics all seemed crap

Last time i played scrabble was a great laugh though, mainly because of the cheating going on with phone apps in the background.

I have to admit I like a good board-game but regretably rarely find time myself or have much interest from family.

We play at Xmas religiously; usually a mix of 'Monopoly', 'Cluedo', 'Frustration', 'Rummikub', 'Mr & Mrs' and my favourite card game 'New Market'.

Ben, something you may have interest in is a new board-game cafe opening up in a few weeks time opposite my shop in South Street, Exeter. It's licensed on the premises for alcohol too. I'm thinking we could have a south-west meet maybe one day as a bit of a change.

I have the disc world one and a batman one. Putting them up for sale on eBay soon as we just don't play them.

I know there was a popupshop board game cafe a while back, I didn't realise they were opening a full time one! This is good news, I'd be up for arranging a meet there

Drop me a PM with a pic of each (just the box should do) in case I can save you the Ebay fees by buying them

It's Luke & Beth (siblings) opening this one, as before. Same format essentially, they've just bought a proper leasehold premises off the Council rather than running a temporary 'pop-up' shop (3 month deal). They got kicked out of their former premises unfortunately as an estate agents bought the lease. Opening a few doors down.
