Previous Experience Needed with RWD car?

    Hi,

After many recommendations I have tried to get my s13 insured with Greenlight.

Rang them last week and they said that they could not insure me due to not having any previous experience driving a powerful rear wheel drive car...

    okay, fair enough, I guess...

So I got a quote for a bmw 318i (115bhp). Again couldn't insure me because I had no previous experience with a powerful RWD car!

Has anyone else had this and what did you do to resolve it? Is it just an age thing? I'm 23 with 3 years NCB

I have been insured with Adrian Flux on my S13 for about 6 months but then I had to cancel the insurance due to not using the car over winter. So I'm guessing that doesn't count as previous experience as it was not a year?

Also how would they know if I have had previous experience driving powerful RWD cars? Are they just taking my word for it or are they checking previous Insurance held in my name?

    So many questions...

Looking to insure my S13 again soon as a weekend car so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I've heard they don't like insuring bmw's for some reason. They've always been fantastic for me though so maybe worth giving Neil on here a pm to try and figure it out.

I had this issue as well, they wouldn't quote me because it was more than 2 years (I think) from the last time I had a RWD car (stage 3a s14) so wouldn't even entertain me until I had another years experience.

Wouldn't quote me on the 180sx when i first bought it 2 years ago even though i owned an RX7 before that, i was 23 at the time with 5 years ncb, hopefully now i've owned the 180 for a couple of years i can get a competative quote.

We require 12 months concurrent RWD experience for vehicles over 180hp due to our bad claims experience. We do state this under the criteria on the main thread http://sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?5...surance-scheme

We dont insure any BMW models full stop due to claims. We would have no problem insuring a new purchase RWD vehicle under 180hp that is not a BMW ie MX5 or Lexus Is200

Once you meet our criteria our rates and cover and usually very competitive.

    Kind Regards
    Neil

Thanks mate appreciate the comments about our price and service.

We had a terrible time on BMW models our underwriters conistently experienced losses so asked us to stop quoting for them. We dont advertise anywhere for BMW's for this reason.

    Kind Regards

Green light smashed the quote I got with flux and I've found the service to be far better. Bored of other companies losing paperwork I've sent and taking money from my account earlier than stated with out permission (naming no names but they have been mentioned in several posts on the thread) never had any problems with gl

Greenlight do seem to be very competitive! Shame about the 1 year experience needed for RWD cars though! I think I'll be using them next year though. Seem much friendlier then flux...

Christ I wish Greenlight would set up shop in Ireland. The insurance companies here are an absolute joke. You guys have it made in the UK.

I used to pay about 800 EUR on my 180SX, but that was over 5 years ago now. The average this year for 30 y/o in a 200SX seems to be about 1,500 EUR, so it's effectively doubled.

Even cover on "normal" cars is gone mad. The other half has a 01 VW Beetle and on average the insurers want 1,000 EUR to cover both of us on it.
