    Jonny's DIY slam panel

Having managed to get my S13 back on the road (after 13 months ), my attention returned to an ongoing niggle that has been bugging me.

When I fitted my rad-mount FMIC years ago, the radiator could no longer be held at the top by the OEM brackets so I fashioned some temporary items until I could come up with something better.

The trouble with the brackets was that there was now a fairly large gap for the air to escape over when I wanted it to be directed through the rad.

3 or 4 years ago (and with almost no fabrication skills) I made myself a prototype slam panel that I intended to paint white to match the rest of the car.

I got as far as the raw metal panel and wasn't pleased with it. Ignore the surface rust, it just looked too amateur.

So, after "worrying" the problem for a few years, I came up with an idea.

I had a bit of poly sheet left over from making a cold frame for the garden...

    ...cut it to shape...

...and made myself a couple of brackets from some offcut lengths of bar (20mm x 3mm) that Paul (pnicholas) has got me for another gardening job.

    Bent to shape...

    ... tidied and primed...

...a couple of coats of Halfrauds Gloss...

    ...and screw it all together...

    Total Cost = £0.

    Honest opinions welcomed.

Haven't seen a saab style intercooler for ages.

Looks invisible really. Maybe stencil paint a design on it?

Its an early apex type 1 ic that is 4 times the size of the OEM wmic. Its not very visible in the pics but looks pretty good in the flesh. My biggest worry is longevity. If it cracks, I'll have house proper lexan on the next one.

It's the best looking rad mount set up I've seen. Good to hear it's back on the road.

    http://www.cutplasticsheeting.co.uk/...-sheeting.html

I found this place real cheap for polycarbonate which I used for my windows and they do custom sizes so you don't buy too much.

Nearly bent the stuff in half for the offcuts and was difficult to break.

Cheers. I'll look into that if this stuff doesn't last.
