Most of the nearside chassis leg is done just need to do the stiffener.

Cut open the offside to see how far it went as at 1st their was only 2 scabs about 2" square which i was going to plate but decided to cut open the leg to see what it was like inside.

Glad i did now

Just goes to show how badly the chassis legs rot from the inside!

Going to cut it right out and do the same as the nearside.

Also made a start welding the boot!



What's the best solution to prevent the boot lid warping from heat?

I did it by doing loads of little spots ie- do a spot wait 30secs do another spot on opposite side and so on...

I think that's the,way to do it and don't bother trying to weld a seam. Just seam sealer it inside and filler on the topside

On the bootlid i just done spots, no seam welds but still got a slight distortion.

Wonder if a wet towel around the area would help?

You can buy a putty that you put around the area that helps keep it cool. Unfortunately I don't know what it's called but I imagine Google search will know.

Not a massive update as haven't had much time the past few weeks!

All the chassis leg welding is finished and wire brushed the front half of the underside, little bit of surface rust around the front jacking points that needs a little more wirebrushing but apart from that its clean!

Welding isn't the prettiest but has good penetration so nice and solid!
For the jacking points i completely cut them out both sides to prevent further rust between the skins and have welded an extra layer externally, then these will be seam sealed primed then 2 coats of 3m schutz.



Also had a rust hole in the passenger footwell so cut that out and welded a plate in!




This evening i flatted back the engine bay ready for paint, removed wings and scuttle panel.

And have discovered why they start to rot on the a-pillar on the seams in the foor shut.



Any moisture that comes through the little flaps is not channelled to the outside so runs backwards and into/down the a-pillar from what i can see.

I am going to see if i can but a small bead of seam sealer in their to help direct it out of the chassis.

When i get a chance (hopefully before the weekend) i am going to give the inside of the scuttle a good jet wash as it was full of all sorts of crap and any water trying to run out was grtting stopped by the amount of crap blocking the little flappy things.

All zinc primed and seam sealed, going to empty a couple of cans of dynax s50 into the chassis legs tomorrow and wirebrush the arches.

Then i can paint the bay and underseal the arches and chassis legs with 1 coat.

Then chassis legs will get another coat when i have finished wirebrushing the sills as i may need some deox gel in a couple of places.
