Need a practical car I don't GAF about

That's right, a good old park it where you like and don't worry about it sh1tbox but it has to meet some criteria:

    1) Not be an absolute POS to drive - I don't mind it being a bit sedate but I'm not driving a ****ing Vectra
    2) Be practical - ideally I'd like an Estate with roof bars so I can get back into MTB's
    3) Be cheap - doesn't need to be cheaper than an Essex prozzie's blowie but I don't want to spend much money on it, if at all possible
    4) Be reasonably reliable / easy to get bits for

What it doesn't need to be:
    1) Economical
    2) Cool looking / street presence
    3) Cheap to insure etc cos I'm old and that shit is a given

Other than that, I'm a goer. I have in mind a budget of £1500 absolute tops.

Thinking Saab 9-5 estate or something Ovlovian of a similar nature.

    Any others to consider?

    Cheers

Shall we just skip right to it and suggest another 911? Or perhaps a Maserati 3200?

How about an e46 touring, or Focus estate?

    How about a vectra ?

Seriously though a think a e46 estate would be good maybe an old Audi estate like the 2.8 ones they did

Had a 330d for nearly 5 years - solid car, so if I can a petrol one with a decent lump at that sort of price then that's an option

Audi estates - the big engine ones, good shout. I'll have a look at those too.

Passats / Octavias - what are they like any good?

Could be interesting. They're quite small though aren't they? Is it for sale on here? Or have you a link to it elsewhere mate?

Fairly small, but the back seats fold completely flat so you can get a fair bit of stuff in it.

I've not advertised it, I was just going to p/x it for something, but haven't decided what yet...

Is Mark on holiday? Thought he'd have stepped in with Focus estate by now.

    V70

Our first one (boxy 1998 version) did 165k miles and only ever had 1 advisory for a worn ball joint.... Very very comfy and cheap as to buy and insure, also cavernous loudspace and battle tank build quality

    Am I allowed to suggest?

EDIT: If you want a swift ish one trick pony that eats bushings then a Saab 95 Aero is a good bet. My **** ugly barge swallows my Enduro bike with the wheels on when you flip the seats down.

It's mind numbing to drive though, like a big fat blancmange that does about 28MPG if you are really gentle or below 25 if you ever remotely use the only enjoyable thing about driving it. Earlier ones are better TBF.
The seats are quite comfy and it hasn't bankrupted me though, but it really is just a Vectra in a shit dress with a different engine. On the plus side that means that parts are cheap and available.
