Haha Not much chance of that this time around; I really do need something I don't GAF about, as that's what's driving the decision to get a second car in the first place.

Tried using the 911 as an every day car and you know what, it's perfectly possible, it's just not possible to do that and keep it nice - and that's not because of the car, it's because of scummy people

Basically I'm fed up with Rosanna going out to shit places and me having to hold my breath as to whether the car is coming back in one piece. That's sort of spoiling ownership really.

My view is getting a second car for the shopping trips, trips to the dump, leaving in crap train station car parks and outside nightclubs means I just get to use the car for all the bits I actually want to use it for - like nice drives out and staying over mates' houses where there's relative safety and off road parking.



And now with all that said, I'm looking at Jags because they look nice Cheers JW - that's totally undone my hard work of talking myself into one of these horrible things

How about a nice little practical 3 door hatchback? No need for roof bars, lots of space in the back with the seats down a bike goes inside.

£1500 gets you a shitter.

Take a good look at the Jag I linked to. Good nick, good history, one owner, reasonable mileage, manual, petrol, RWD... what's not to like. Its in Chelmsford and its so good I'm seriously tempted myself and I want to lose two not gain one

Buy my YRV Turbo. You can put an MTB in it or on it. Goes like shit off a stick, gets either awesome or horrendous MPG depending on how much loud pedal you give it. Necessary maintenance has cost me all of £400 in 3.5yrs of ownership and those bits have been rusty or have worn out and isn't now, so should not need it for another 11 years.

I reckon Saab/Volvo is a perfect sort. Big, dull, dependable.
I was in the market for either, just so happened that the hideous swede was the first available.
I was also looking looking at s60s, but they were pricier and thinner on the ground. That would need a bike rack though.
I've got a towball mounted one but tbh I hardly use it as I prefer to sling the bike inside for security.

Remove the passenger seat (4 bolts) and you could buy a Christmas tree so big it needs planted in the garden!
Need some more seats? easy just stick a couple on steel reinforced bootlid of the mk 1 and 2, a set of gloves and woolly hats they will be grand.


Sure you may have some sacrifices, like no cup holders but the drive too and from the cycle spot will make up for it...

My brother has an old Volvo S80 5 cylinder diesel. Used to have an old T5 convertible which he took to Poland and back. He is always singing praises about Volvo's.
They are good cars, relatively quick, frugal, handle well, ride well, reliable, 5 cylinders sound good albeit quite muted. The main thing I don't like is the dash is ugly and lifeless under geared steering typical of big luxo barges but overall it they are really good cars, great value for money too.
Both were about £1300-£1500 mark iirc and not sheds either.

I'd second a Subaru legacy. Capable and capacious. Great in British weather.
Probably not the best time to buy though as priced go up in autumn/winter due to the 4x4ness.
