Guy in work has a mate shifting a ~2000/2001 Merc C240 Estate. Petrol, 2.6 litre engine.

I know nothing about them at all - is it even worth considering?

That is the exact era of Merc that'll be rusty as a rusty thing, with all the bushes falling out. They're pretty shocking generally

    See that was easy

So I'm looking at Lexus Sportcross, Jag X Type, Volvo V70's or bottom of the list Saab's now because Vectra

Best one in nearest distance it is, then.

Avoid Diesel X Types, it will ruin you

Unless of course there is proof of recent DMF/Clutch and Injector changes.

I would highly recommend a V70 D5 but not in your budget unfortunately. They drive very like a petrol, loads of torque and great noise. For the money you're spending you'll get plenty choice of petrols. Get one with the Dolby surround sound - it's properly good and most of them have got it.

Not averse to a diesel as I spent 5 years in a 330d - but I'm after petrol for more practical reasons than that; ie I don't want to confuse my poor wife putting petrol in one car and diesel in another, or she'll be filling the 911 up with the wrong stuff at the first period

It might scratch Rosanna's Jag itch too
This has gone now. I knew it wouldn't hang around. It was half the price of comparable cars. It will probably come back up at double the price in a few weeks in a dodgy dealers.

I offered At that money, I'd have bought it on approval if I thought it was that good then sold it again if you didn't want it.

So as with everything it's taken me a while to get my ass in gear and I'm now off on my travels to see a very cheap Ovlov V70 estate. Hopefully it'll be just what I'm after. We shall see.

You're trying to use the train at Christmas ? How did you ever think that was going to end anything but badly ? I'm actually working from home because I can't get into London.

Didn't expect a 24 ****ing minute zone 5 journey to turn into a ****ing spazfest that's for sure.

My trains into town are fine.

And to be fair I have no other option. The 911 is out of action again and the KTM is pissing oil out all over the garage floor.

It's like I've upset the motoring gods again.

It would appear it just never was fixed. The intermittent charging system fault has reappeared.
