    OS Giken Mainshaft Issues

    Hi there,

I have bougth a OS Giken mainshaft, but it does not seem to fit.

The distance between the circlip and the Inputshaft bearing is about 2.5 mm too long. As a consquence, the selector fork is not capable of engaging the 4th correctly (alongside the problem that the input/main shaft assembly is betting too long for the case & layshaft)

Is anyone aware of such an issue? Is this an manufacturing error?

Are you using this with an R32 gearbox?

my chain of thoughts is what ABT seems to be hinting at. people think CA SR and small case RB boxes are the same but they are not.

the RB box is actually a slightly longer.

I have a few SR and CA boxes that are missing 3rd gear that are due to go in the skip next week if you find you need any random parts.

Hi green_rs13. Could you be so kind and measure the distance I have marked in the picture for a SR20 mainshaft?

I have a dog gear set, which is actually a SR20 kit. I had it fitted it and run on my CA18 gearbox. I thought it would be a good idea to change to a upgraded OS Giken mainshaft and now I have this issue.

So - the SR20 gear set is fitting into a CA18 gearbox. This means that the SR20 inputshaft & CA18 inputshaft must be the same length.

SR20 & CA18 gear clusters be fitted in either bellhousing (meaning assembly length mainsahft+input shaft are the same).

Summing up, the SR20 mainshaft and CA18 mainshaft must be of same length?!?!

i will try, give me a few days..

I don't get why you have used a CA centre plate though as they have the worst oil control out of the lot and they use plain bearings.

I think he means open/unshielded bearing as in the oil can surge rearwards and the oil can flow through them to the tailshaft
s14 has shielded (same as dust shield) so oil can't flow through them, and 14a has shielded + a little trap door/hinged flap

    Green_s13

I need a reverse gear and reverse gear selector hub for s14 if you have them? Will pay for them and postage or could collect in a week or so, maybe one evening next week if pushed?

In fact I really need 2 x reverse gears as I have two boxes where the selectors have cracked and not fully engaged taking the selector teeth off
PM me if you can help :-)
    Cheers craig

    Hi craig,,

i will see how they are, I remember at least one of them has the side chewed off the reverse teeth. I think I spoke to you ages ago about this but never got round to it.

I cant seem to find my pullers so cant take anything apart at the moment.
